From late afternoon yesterday to now this thread has blown up (probably due to some merging...i hope) but one common theme I am seeing is a few posters hanging on to the "I was right and the 'haters' were wrong." What bothers me about this is the fact that most of the "haters" were all expecting Cutler to get signed, granted I don't think anyone thought it would have been a 7 year deal but most understand that he probably wont see the last 2-3 years of that contract. So if most of the posters who didn't want him back knew that he would be back how are they wrong? I was part of that crew that felt moving on was the smarter move but I was pretty sure he would end up getting signed...so where was I or anyone in this mindset wrong?
A lot of the "fanboys" have been pretty intolerable and sound childish whenever people have different opinions of Cutler (I also know that the "haters" have been just as bad), but the purpose of this board is to generate discussion and debate about football and mainly Bears football. So how is someone wrong or a bad fan when they don't feel that Cutler is the answer? How are they a bad fan when they see a backup QB fill in and play as well as the starter and say that they would be happy if Cutler were let go? Granted a lot of those discussions are a lot more colorful and usually filled with insults coming from both camps, but neither side is wrong in their thinking. When I sign on to CCS, its not to make definitive claims so I can pound my chest when I am right on that claim. I sign on to talk football and debate both sides of an argument.
Emery and Trestman feel Cutler is the best option at QB for the next 3-4 years, those two guys know a whole lot more football than any of us here and I'm pretty sure they even played high school football. So I hope they know what they are doing when they sign players to a long term deal. This move will define their success or failure here in Chicago. It doesn't seem like this deal will kill the Bears cap and that some defensive FA can be signed this offseason. With the offensive side of the ball fixed, I hope Emery can hit on some FA and in the draft to rebuild this defense. It feels a lot like the opposite of what the Bears had with Lovie...there is a great core on the offensive side of the ball but defense and ST are leaving a lot to be desired. If the defense and ST can improve to at least average, this team can be very scary...regardless of who is the QB.
