Too late to read through 50+ pages, but smart move by the Bears. The offense is sure to be good for the next few years barring injuries, if I was a first time HC I would take Jay over some unknown mid to low round rookie every time. Why risk having to rebuild your offense or drafting a headcase by mistake when you already know that Jay and the Bears offensive staff work well together?

Smart move and the right decision for a chance to win NOW.

Why would anyone care what a loser like Matt Leinart has to say??? McNabb thinks he is a "shock jock" or whatever now. I can't take him seriously as he will say anything to get people to listen to him talk. Cutler is better than either of them and he's still making NFL money and they aren't so no surprise they are hating. People will continue to take shots at Jay until the Bears win it all, I'm sure he can live with that and stay focused on proving them all wrong.

So after year one and his 22m salary, and especially after year 3 (no guaranteed money so can be cut anytime), this deal looks somewhat positive for the Bears. Am I understanding that right?

LOL I'd take McNabb over Cutler. Playoff comparisons aside, he was a better player. Say what you want about Leinart in the NFL but he knows more about football than 99% of people

I liked McNabb but he isn't better than Cutler, he had the benefit of playing in Andy Reid's system for most of his career and usually had pretty solid talent around him. If Jay Cutler had stayed in Denver his whole career, people would be singing a completely different story about him. As for Leinart "knowing" more than 99% of people, I would expect that all ex-nfl players know more about football than 99% of people so I'm not impressed.

He was an overrated bum in college that rode the coat tails of Reggie Bush and Lendale White along with the USC machine that Pete Carroll built. He was a complete bust and everyone knew he would be which is why he fell in the draft. People like him and Hasslebeck etc, are jealous of Cutlers talent and never pass up an opportunity to take shots hoping people won't remember how terrible they were themselves.

McNabb had mostly poor wr players like Pinkston or Mitchell who never flourished. Only TO was someone that actually opened the passing game for him.

Hey, this forum ain't big enough for two poor receiver excuses.

Granted, that was a legit excuse for Jay in the past.

Party-boy Leinart isn't worth mentioning. McNabb was great in his day but piss poor in the post-season. Here's hoping Cutler proves him wrong by bringing the Lombardi trophy home to Chicago.

Yes, I did say that I've lost confidence in Emery/Trestman due to their views on Cutler, but that as nothing to do with Trestman being a talented play caller and improving the O. I haven't lost any faith in Trestman's system nor his ability to call plays. What I don't have faith in is their faith in Cutler to run it.

IMO it's incredibly stupid for Trest/Emery to have placed their careers in Jays hands. Jay has done nothing to earn that kind of commitment and they would have been wise to leave themselves some room to distance themselves from him if need be. I simply see no reason to assume that he'll ever be anything more than an inconsistent turnover prone QB, who while above average in physical talent, is average at best when it comes to the cerebral and mechanical aspects of the position.

Cutler hasn't done enough to earn what is essentially a three year deal? Interesting.

Not too mention this contract was given to a guy that threw 12 picks to 19 TDs in the games he actually managed to play... plus multiple fumbles.

And then there were the almost picks.

Cut it out with the almost picks bullshit. Every qb has those. Fuck mccown had three alone in the Dallas gane. Stupid ass "stat".

So Cutler is counting 22.5 million against the cap this season?

As there is no signing bonus that would mean the base salaries are going to be the cap numbers?

That will impact our free agent ability.

and completely contradict why Emery didn't want to use the tag. So much for the Bears not thinking him worth it. Looks like we gave that up for some continuity at the position and the option to cut bait in 3 years.
