As has been pointed out by others, it's really a 3 year deal. After that Bears can let him go and take no cap hit for doing so.
agreed But jay will probably play another 7 for us at a minimum...More like 10

I don't know, W1ndy City is our expert on this stuff, and he said last week in a post that fair value for Cutler is 15-17 million a year. We are paying 18, with the discount and hitting the cap with 22 first year.

well if W1ndy City said it then it must be true

so we pay out the ass for 3 years to spare the cap later? sounds fine to me as long as during these 3 years his replacement gets drafted and groomed. maybe not this season but next at the latest

the focus has to absolutely be the defense this offseason

Desperado, I don't feel like searching, but I do recall you saying yourself that Cutler should be signed, but lately quoting dollars much less than the signed amount
and more importantly not amounts that would kill our cap like 22 million. Am I wrong? You were concerned with fixing our defense and said that we will sign him like 4 years 52 million, or something like that.

Yeah the way they have structured this deal is really odd. Really, in a weird way it's an admission that they are not 100% sold on Cutler long term. They have basically paid a premium for the next 3 years which leads me to believe they will be drafting a QB this year or next year to groom with the hope that the kid is ready to play 2017.

As for impact on FA, I imagine the Bears did this knowing how much money they wanted to spend in FA this year so don't think this affects FA much.

Not 100% sold on Cutler and paying him Aaron Rodgers type money for the next 3 years? I understand your point to a degree, but this is big fucking money and cap space going his way.

I don't think that's it at all. The guaranteed portion of Cutler's deal is tied in with Trestman's contract.

It signals to us that they are going all in for Superbowl runs these next three years. That's exciting to me as a Bears fan.

I agree with this portion of your post 100%.

it has to be a defense heavy draft at this point. and we need 2 key big fa players possibly a dt and a safety too bringem anywhere near respectable imho. and phil better hit on those picks or itll be another year of we cant stop anyone

They way I take it, Emery and Trest are sold on him since if in 2-3 years it's decided that Jay didn't work out, then neither did Emery/Trestman; they have idiotically handcuffed themselves to him. George on the other hand might not be so sold on Jay, nor their faith in him, and said "alright, if they want to ride and die with him we'll let them," and had it arranged in a manner so that if need be he can clean house in a couple of years. Which reminds me, what's the cap hit on the third year?

I miss the Trestman that refused to call Jay a franchise QB.

We had 45 million in cap space to start.

We have 65 million if we cut Peppersand Bush.

At best after Cutler we will have 42.5 without a real way to get more.

Right now if everything reported is accurate we have

42.5
-Jennings
-Slauson
-Gould
-Fiammetta
