The trade in reality isn't that bad.
Every team and their mother knew the Hawks needed to get under the cap, so there goes part of any power you had in negotiations. The Hawks add a stud defenseman prospect who isn't your typical European shutdown guy the Hawks have been drafting. The kid has some actual hockey skill and was up for best D man last year in the Finnish Elite league.
While I like Leddy and think we took a loss, at the end of the day he's not a 3rd pairing defensemen. He's a top 2 offensive Dman who moves the puck well and has great speed. On this Hawks team his spot is already filled by Keith and we have Clendening in the minors who is going to take his place soon.
Is it the return we all wanted? No, but what can you expect when the teams over the cap? Had they traded him in the summer, they might have gotten less. At least the isles decided to go full on playoff mode and are going all in.
