Like I've said no reason not to start Kris from day 1
But this article essentially refutes exactly that

The problem is Boras doesn't want his clients to extend. And he really doesn't have to also unless he can make more over the 7 years of control vs the arb process. But with Bryant's talent he should get into heavy paydays by then.
If they start him in mid apr 2015 he would be at 500k 2016 500k 2017 he would be up for super 2 and that makes him a 4 year arb case. Yould have to expect he would be looing at 2-5 mil at this point then x2 that each year.
They could ink him to a 10 year deal off the bat and buy up 3 years of control for 100 mil but I'm not sure if Boras would go with that.
But this article essentially refutes exactly that
It includes an early opt-out clause.
"...and while there is still no official word from the team, and perhaps nothing's been signed yet, there is a clear understanding the deal will be finalized and Stanton will remain a Marlin for at least the next five or six years."
So he can have his cake and eat it too. Nice.
@Buster_ESPN: One possible way for the Cubs to land a catcher: the D-Backs' Miguel Montero, who is owed $40 million over next three seasons.
Trade them Travis Wood and Castillo. The Cubs get their LH, OBP, with a little pop catcher and free up a roster spot, though at 31 is a risk. The D-Backs get out from under his contract and essentially could let the others go at any time if they need to. I wouldn't trade much in prospects to acquire him.
Would Castillo see much action if he stayed and they picked up Montero? It essentially makes him worth not much to other teams to me.
For that you should scream that THeo and crew are dumb as rocks. For the price Montero ain't that much of an upgrade over Castillo.
This is the best plan IMOWell the talk was already that Travis Wood might be non-tendered. And like I said, if they acquired Montero, what do you do with Castillo?
An alternative would be something like Castillo maybe being moved to LA for Crawford who would probably be an upgrade to Ellis, but that would be an awful lot to make happen in an off-season.
None of this is going to happen anyways.
The Cubs will resort back to the original plan and look for pitching, keep Castillo, and probably use in-house Lopez as a back-up and maybe get a LF platoon player.
Anything beyond that will be jaw dropping.
The one thing i am confident in- Theo and Jed won't overreact to today's deals by doing something stupid just for the sake of doing something.

Lets hope not. But you have to know that they only need to look south on the map, and know that their task got a little harder to catch the team they are pursuing the heaviest.
Would like something to happen on the free agent market to shore up the staff. That can always take a turn for the worse, especially when you have teams come out of nowhere and stake their claim.
Rolling out the red carpet doesn't always work. Rolling out the green carpet usually does.
You mean anymore, right?
What stupid moves have they made?
Edwin Jackson, of course.
Well, I am sure they know other teams are not standing still. if anything, i expect more moves by NL Central teams because the Cubs are coming.
Cards' acquisition is good, but they compensated for their loss of Taveras, and lost Miller in the process. But they dealt from strength, so it's a good move for them. We just have to hope Heyward continues to hit like he has the past two years. The cards now have an asst hitting coach to help turn him around, as he did with javy Baez.
