Clayton Kershaw had his last and worst start of the year June 26 in Pittsburgh. He went 5 innings, gave up 4 runs and the Dodgers loss to fall to 41-36 on the year. The Giants hung on to beat the Phillies and had a record of 49-28 giving them a 8 game lead. Since then the Dodgers, who have one SP in the top 50 in fWAR (Maeda) have gone 21-13 while the Giants have gone just 14-20.

I don't buy the Dodgers rise at all. First the talent isn't there to support the way they've been playing, but more importantly they're outperforming their Pythagorean record by 7 wins. I think part of it is a "grindy" quality and part playing above their heads. The Giants, on the other hand, are playing right at their adjusted record and had been due for some regression. I still Miami and St. Louis will be the WC teams with SF winning the West by 5 games or so.

I don't see that at all. If anything when Shaw gets back they are deadly. Add to it he won't have 250 innings on his arm come play off time. That is a blessing in disguise for them.

Don't under estimate that team at all. I'm hoping they stick as the #1 WC and the Cards #2 because the Cards have a way of pulling off upsets. Then they match up with the Cubs minus their ace. In a series the Cubs would curb stop the birds again. Dodgers with Shaw are a problem

We'll DESTROY the Dodgers. The only teams who scare me are SF and the Mets. I still think we'll beat both but it won't be easy.

Washington, Miami and St. Louis would get crushed by us. We're going to be awfully tough in October -- especially especially with Edwards/Strop/Rondon/Chapman in the back end.

This is the best shot at the pennant I've ever seen.

I seriously doubt Kershaw comes back. They're talking mid September at the earliest and there is no rehab schedule as yet. If he comes back I might change my mind but I expect a slump before that.

Damn right the Reds blew a 4-0 lead in the ninth. Molina single to lead off then two outs then

to win the game 5-4.

The Cardinals have not missed the playoffs since 2010. They will find a way to pull a rabbit out of their ass to get in like usual.

Ugh. One of the ugliest losses in Reds history. Gotta love that Cincy bullpen.

Cards fans rejoicing as this will get them going.

But as I laugh at that, I know they could get 2nd WC by one game and win it all thanks to this. The last two times they barely got in with a shitty team they won the WS. Pricks.

Nats are the 2nd best team in the NL by far. They have been winning the head to head with SF up to this point.

Mets lack what got them past the Cubs. But the Nats got him now.

Even rotation wise the Nats match up with the Cubs. They are the hardest challenge.

SF and LAD are pretty close right now. If Hill is effective. But add Shaw they take it to the next level.

Cards are the Cards. Never count them out.

That team should have collapsed with no ace. Don't short change them because they don't deserve it.

Giants worry me the most with Bumgarner's playoff history. He could literally win them 3 games in a 7 game series by himself. The Nationals have the pitchers to match the Cubs, but they have not proven it in the playoffs as much.

If we can just hang on to the best record, it guarantees we only have to face one of those two teams.

Too much history repeating itself for me with them (the Giants) winning in '10, '12, and '14.

I have to go with the team that will give the Cubs the most fits. It is Washington IMO. Granted, the offense isn't a juggernaut, but anytime you have Scherzer and Strasburg at the top of the rotation, followed closely by Roarke, that is a formidable rotation in the playoffs.

Having Cub (and any other team for that matter) killer Daniel Murphy, coupled with Papelbon and Melancon in the bullpen, makes them a definite force to be dealt with.

First things first. Win the division with the best record in the NL, knock off the WC winner, and then roll the dice from there. You can't ask for more than that. Just give yourself a chance. ;)

Yeah, I'm not as worried about the Nats as SF or even the Mets. SF is of championship-pedigree. I don't really want anything to do with them.

The Mets aren't quite as scary but come on, they have Thor, de Grom, etc. If they pitch their brains out again, we'll have to win each game 2-1, 1-0, etc.

The Nats are good on paper but I'm less concerned with them. I just don't see them winning the pennant. Dusty winning the pennant? Not happening.
