Yeah, I'm not as worried about the Nats as SF or even the Mets. SF is of championship-pedigree. I don't really want anything to do with them.

The Mets aren't quite as scary but come on, they have Thor, de Grom, etc. If they pitch their brains out again, we'll have to win each game 2-1, 1-0, etc.

The Nats are good on paper but I'm less concerned with them. I just don't see them winning the pennant. Dusty winning the pennant? Not happening.

The Nationals are clearly a better team than the Giants and you're not going to have to worry about the Mets who won't make the playoffs. Rotation wise it's definitely the Nats I fear the most. The good news is that Washington and SF are going to have to face each other first while the Cubs will most likely play one of the Cards, Dodgers or Marlins.

This is why I am rooting so hard against the Cardinals right now, and last nights debacle by the Reds didn't help any. I would hate to see the Red Birds sneak in as a WC, because then they could do to us what we did to them last year, which is win a WC game, and then beat the best team in the NL in a short series.

I think I would have to hang myself if that happened. Those fans have been quiet all year, and I want to keep it that way. ;)

Nats and Giants face off and go 7 games which ends up going extras and both teams using up all their pen and needing to use starters to pitch in relief.. Lol

Except that it already did.

Yep, 2002 and was promptly told to move along. I can't stand Baker but I do give him credit in that he can really get players to play for him. It's usually by getting them to play with a chip on their collective shoulders though which make his teams awfully hard to root for. That 2004 Cubs team was the most unlikable team I'v ever had to root for and the nonsense with Chip Carey and Steve Stone was utter bullshit. Still he has a great pitching staff and a pretty good team in Washington and shouldn't be dismissed out of hand. I know a lot of people fear the Giants, and they're a good team to be sure, but empirically Washington is better and the even year thing is coincidental not causal. I don't want to face the Cardinals in the NLDS, and the Marlins bats scare me some but the Cubs should advance to NLCS regardless.

Cards are a bad team. They will be 2nd AC and face LAD without Kershaw, and we will face them. I don't want that, even though they suck.

I'd rather face miami or la

538 currently gives the Dodgers a slight nod over the Giants. 85%-83% chance of making the playoffs and 50%-49% chance of inning the division. Nationals OTOH are right behind the Cubs for best chance to win the WS (20%0-15%). They are giving the Cardinals a 38% chance of making the playoffs. Again...currently...as of today.

I think people are over doing this Cardinal team. They are not good. they cant pitch and play bad defense. They can hit and its in bunches. The Reds bullpen is historically bad. The Cardinals didnt win it last night. the Reds legit just handed it to them. They didnt hit more than a single in that inning. It was the Reds being the Reds this year.

I'm pretty much with you but I still don't want to see them in the playoffs. Realistically if the Cardinals have a ghost of a chance in the division they have to sweep this 4 game series with 6 still to play. That ain't happening. They'll make the WC probably but I hope not.

Prince Fielder is calling it a career. He and his dad have the identical HR total at 319.

It's hard to say....playoffs are such a hot and cold thing. Last year I was happy the Mets won....I didn't want to face the Dodgers with Greinke and Kershaw. I knew the Met's pitching was good but I figured the Cubs would easily shut down their offense. But...they got hot. Still a lot of time left...I wish it was Oct. tomorrow. The Cubs are playing right now how I want them playing when the playoffs start.

I fear the Cubs hitters in the playoffs because we have no clue what to expect from them..

Montero and Ross... Basically suck

Rizzo.. Great but streaky
Zobrist.. Good but inconsistent
Russell.. Up and down most of time
Bryant.. Great but streaky

Fowler.. He goes they go ?
Heyward.. Sucks but hopefully figuring it out now
Soler.. ?????

Others... Nothing exciting here, maybe Contreras and baez has an impact..

So, going to really need to rely on the pitching and hope the hitters can, not all suck at same time

Cards had 8 baserunners in 9th. 5 runs and bases loaded when it ended.

They had a whopping three singles.

Talent wise they are far and away the best team in the NL and probably MLB. Other teams fans have a lot more concerns than we do.

Not questioning their talent....
They can score runs in a heartbeat

I just hope come playoff, we don't see the struggling inconsistent bats for a stretch in the NLDS , or NLCS, or WS

Montero and Ross forget how to hit
4-3 j hay
slumping Russel
RISP slump
Etc Etc

That's just baseball. The playoffs are essentially random events but given the opportunity talent often wins out.

The real issue will start if the temp goes south. Then you start seeing the blue hoodies and cold bats.

Just hope it is LAD and SFG so they get some games out of the freezer
