I remember athanasiou if he is the same one that played for Detroit was just one of those over rated players by local fans. Yzerman dumped him for picks similar to our current purge

It was a genuine question, I don't know enough about them or their rep to know what kind of teammates they are perceived as. Domi could be that guy on the ice who is all over the place everywhere and then a good locker room guy because he's just about the team, or he could be a Akim Aliu everywhere. I forgot that he was with Richardson last year, so I think that's a very good sign about fit at least. Also a good sign that someone who has been coached by him would want to sign here. No matter how minor a role.
Yeah you never know behind closed door. If I had to describe Domi, he's a bit of a punk ass. I mean I like physical players as much as the next guy, but when Domi was on Columbus, he did some real, real stupid shit (on the ice). Can get pretty damn dirty too. I remember Foley ranted against him during a game because he gave up on a play and the Hawks scored.

When Domi was in Montreal, he was better (EDIT: Domi actually went to Columbus after Montreal). I don't believe he had many problems while with Carolina but could be mistaken.

So my point is, don't be surprised if Domi does something stupid/dirty and results in a horrible penalty at a critical time in the game; or if he lollygags defensively. But he will hit, he does fight. He's a much dirtier pest than a guy like Shaw. He makes sense for one-year and he can take attention off the young players being targeted.

I can't imagine where he would learn any fucktardary from.

Domi has some skill. Put him with Kaner and see if he can raise his stock at TDL. Both AA and Domi can skate and forecheck two thing this team doesn’t have enough of.

Best case scenario is he looks decent and we can trade him before the deadline.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks

Somewhat surprised by this, considering we have Mrazek. I thought they might go with a younger vet signing, but Stalock is mid-thirties.
I'm thinking they might want to season the young D not named Lankinen more. Not sure on Lanks status but Stalock looks like he can take over backup/1b for Mrazek or be in the A depending on how the cookie bounces. The younger netminders will probably get their time in Rockford or Indy.

How the hell is Tampa pulling off signing Cirelli, Sergachev, and Cernak? It looks like they're 6 million over the cap right now with those signings.

That Sergachev contract is damn hefty.
I keep asking the same question,

How much ltir money do the bolts have?

They’re the only team that learned having shit contracts were a benefit while chasing cups.

Hell, they’ve manipulated the system to their advantage so much these last couple years it’s a shock the NHL didn’t try and stop what they’re doing.

Trust me, they’re going to be players in the Kane seeepstakes come trade dead line. I’m sure a couple of those guys they just signed to long term extensions will suddenly be “injured” around that time.

As for the warm bodies the hawks signed…..meh.

Domi is a selfish prick who is banking on playing next to Kane so his stock blows up and he can get years and money next year. He’s nothing but Tootoo with a set of hands.

AA is Stalberg 2.0 without the physicality. The one year where he didn’t miss 30 plus games he potted 30 goals. That was how many years and injuries ago? The guys the hockey equivalent of Eloy and should be taping egg cartons to his body with the word “fragile” visible so other teams handle him like fine china.

KD did good. Didn’t do anything to hamper the long-term outlook of the club and got a couple guys that you can likely flip at the TDL for more 2023 draft capital.

True, but it’s backwards logic.

Spending six million dollars for a couple third rounders, no matter how ridiculous this draft is, is wasting money.

To even get a second rounder, these two twerps are gonna have to be posting career numbers. Domi does more good being a fucking asshole and putting the hawks on the pk so I’m really not too eye rolly, but AA is the drizzling shits.

Let’s start a bet on how many games he plays. I’ll take 30-35.

Well, not really. They're one year deals and it's a tank year.

Athanasiou is a 20-30 point guy still in his twenties with good speed. Domi, yeah I'm not super thrilled with that pickup either because the guy is a chode, but he will provide some physicality at least.

They're both adequate filler players for this year.

Well…

AA will be injured most of the year if his regular trajectory holds up. He doesn’t do anything good outside of speed skating but, if you think about it he’s pretty much a faster version of Dach with better hands.

I just think the jury is out on both of these guys and nobody is gonna be looking at either and saying “holy shit, we need Max fucking Domi to put us over the hump in the playoffs”. They are what they are and it’s not much. Double tough considering they just gave two roster spots up that could have been used on kids or whatever hand me downs are still in Rockford.

Honestly I’d love it if both are around 30 goals apiece and KD can get something for them. But if these thimble brains are around those numbers then the Hawks aren’t tanking and will be saddled with another top seven pick which is still a damn good spot this coming draft but I’m all about the big three.

This team needs 60 losses this year. If you trade away a 24 year old sniper you best better get somebody better then him and there’s three of them.

(To the bolded) Exactly. The goal next year is to simply tread water and not ice an AHL team on NHL ice. I just hope Domi doesn't do anything despicable, which is a legit concern with him.

Yeah or maybe 40 points would fetch you something. But either way, I can't say I hate these moves. Of course it would suck to not get any return for them at the deadline, but then you just let them walk.

They're kind of perfect in a way because, they have the slight chance to put up respectable individual numbers, but they're incapable of making the team good overall. For a team that wants to tank, I think that works.

So maybe he's picking up guys that will make the team worse and tanking without the appearance of actively trying to make the team worse? haha

Some interesting names still floating out there: Dylan Strome, Ryan Strome, Kadri, Bergeron, our very own Calvin de Haan (maybe there really was no market for him at the deadline? Or maybe he's just weighing his options).

Ryan Dzingel is also still out there. Bowman almost signed this dude in 2019.

Spending 6 million isn’t wasting money. CBA says each team must spend above the cap floor so the money is already spent. If you get anything out of Domi or AA at the deadline, that’s gravy. If there is any player that can make Domi or AA better on the stat sheet, it is Patrick Kane. That alone is reason to not trade him until the TDL to try to maximize other flippable assets. It will be worth watching how Debrincat and Strome perform without Kane.
