I would have posted this in the NHL thread but nobody ever reads that one, lol.

Sounds like Matthew Tkachuk is on his way out of Calgary. Wow, if that's true, they will be losing both him and Johnny Gaudreau this off-season -- and I thought we had it bad as Hawks fans. That's a reallllll kick in the nuts.

I'd love to see Matthew Tkachuk in a Hawks sweater; it's never going to happen obviously, but still. I love the way he plays and I was a big Keith Tkachuk fan growing up. Matthew is one of the rare, true power forwards left in the game. I just hope he doesn't end up in his hometown of St. Louis. Anywhere but fucking St. Louis. Please.
As would I, but our GM doesn't seem to be interested in 24 yr old star players........

True. I mean if he got rid of Debrincat (24), he surely wouldn't want Tkachuk. But it would be absolutely awesome if Davidson executed a three-way trade and got him out of the division at least, haha. That's a long shot obviously, but a legit concern. It sounds like Nashville and St. Louis are the front-runners for him, and it will suck seeing that dude on a regular basis for the next 7-8 years.

I can only assume he's going balls to the wall for the top pick and more in 2023....any kind of addition that would hinder that plan is off the table. I mean we're looking at a ton of bad hockey coming our way and it's gonna be here for awhile. I can't for the life of me figure out why Kane or Toews would want to remain here.

Not really, the hawks will be shit for the next 7-8 years, it won’t change anything.

That's quite the pessimistic view there HIM. Maybe you're right, but I hope to God you're not. Either way, I wouldn't want Tkachuk running our young guys with high hopes. Sounds like I won't need to worry about that because he was just traded to Florida.

Another team on the cusp. As much as I'd like him here, it wouldn't make any sense. Just like the trade for Seth didn't make much sense. You make deals like that when you have a shot at something.

Apparently, it doesn't make any difference. He's wiping the slate clean. Who's left? Jones, McCabe, Murphy, Johnson, a bunch of Rockford rejects and a handful of players from other teams that nobody else wanted. Good luck with selling that to your season ticket holders.

No wonder Kaner is still around.....anyone want to hazzard a guess when they pull the plug on televised home games? Of course, it's not like they'll be missed or anything. There might be some interest at first but eventually it will be a horrible team with horrible announcers playing in front of a half empty UC. Ugh.....

This better pay dividends down the road or it will more heads rolling and another rebuild to follow. I laughed when @LordKOTL proposed
a 7/10 year rebuild but he may very well be right about that. There's no guarantee that Davidson gets the picks he wants or even if he does...takes the right players with them.

I don't think they'll pull the plug on TV. There's already too many channels and nothing on; the 'hawks just add to the nothingness. A bad 'hawks team beats the shit out of watching shit like poker, golf, and most major network programming.

In Kaner's case he's within striking distance of a lot of 'hawks records set by Mikita. That could be a reason. Toews might want to ride off into the sunset as a 'hawk. Who knows? They might have family wanting them to stay in town. They might want to look great on a shit team to increase their trade value at the TDL or signing value for 2023.

I see it like this: Kane and Toews couldn't save the 2018 'hawks once Crawford went down; it's unlikely they'll save the 2023 'hawks from taking hard for Bedard. If they want to stay, then they can stay. If they want out, we send them out.

If Kaner is more interested in setting team records than winning, I'd be very disappointed in him. I know Toews doesn't even have that line of thought in his DNA. Besides, Toews is still single and lives in Canada, I believe. Kaner might live here with his new family....so that might be a reason.

Given their elite status with this team and their NTC.....they hold all the cards.

Honestly, I would not be surprised if Toews plays out next year and then calls it quits.

Kane, on the other hand, well, he holds all the cards like you say. He can stay with the 'hawks through the rest of whatever his viable career is and go down as one of--if not the best Blackhawks of all-time--ditto with being one of if not the best Americans to play the game. Or, he could move on looking for a great team where he can pad his numbers. We don't know. Kane did get his 3 cups and a Conn Smythe out of it. Mayvbe he wants more cups. Maybe he wants individual accolades. Who knows but Kane.

Food for thought: If Kaner stays at his current production of 1.07 P/GP, and plays the remaining 289 games to catch Makita's GP, he will break Makita's point record with the 'hawks. He has 111 goals to go to tie Makita's total as well. That would be one hell of a feather in his cap and I couldn't begrudge him for wanting to do so That's some very elite company there; and he could possibly catch Modano as best American-born while doing so--or he could do it away from the 'hawks as well.

It looks like Kane and JT both break camp with the team at this point,do we see the two together? If not,who centers Kane and who does Kane set up next year? Let's not forget the rough start Kane was off to last year before that line was put together. He had a handful of goals at that point and ended up with 26 but more importantly,he tied his career assist total with 66.........his linemates scored 63 goals though.

D-Cat and Strome won't have Kane this year BUT Kane won't have D-Cat and Strome either..........it'll be interesting to see how all three do.

I can't help but think that Domi/Toews/Kane see time together at some point during the season. I mean Kane was once paired with Carcillo for a time, so it is possible. Toews stays in the top six -- I know Richardson's a tough cookie, but even he wouldn't want to rock the boat that much by putting him in the bottom six. Would he?

Or this:
Athanisiou/Toews/? -- Reichel maybe; if not, prospect who impresses most out of camp.
Domi/T. Johnson/Kane -- Assuming Johnson, you know, actually plays this year.

If Richardson wants to spread the "wealth," he could maybe move Johnson down to 3LC, but he'll probably want to throw Kane a bone and give him two competent line-mates.

OMG.....just thinking about watching those pairings along with those horrid dmen and poor goaltending.....I may start watching Wolves games more. I mean they are both minor league teams but at least the Wolves are playing other minor league teams.

But, hey.....if it leads to a top three pick, so be it.

BTW, LOL'd at spread the "wealth".

Can anyone remind me what extra draft capital we still have for next year due to all the trades and such?

So they have 3 extra left over the next two years minus the one they traded away. I'm sure they;'ll find a way to grab more, but looks like they really sold out for the previous draft.

It made more sense with Dach available as a defensive center, imo.

Check this out though...from the horses mouth. Sounds like he's gone to me. I think Kirby and Cat finally got him hopeless enough to leave. Like...they were supposed to be the timeline he had to wait for...now he started over.

#woah that calgary championship window closed quick, lol.

It has. I get the feeling that maybe Kadri ends up there, which would be a tiny consolation. Not sure about their cap situation though.

#called it.

It is a small consolation, considering what Calgary lost, but they almost had to make this move.
