If Parise indeed ends up in Chicago, then I am afraid it will be at a crippling price. If these $100 million and $12m salaries are true then WTF, no way either Parise or Suter are worth that much.

Correct.

I find it hard to believe that the Blackhawks will give out the largest contract in team history to a player that has never even played a game for them.

True..I mean we just traded Campbell because of what 7.1 M cap hit did to us, and I thinkhe's better than Suter and Parise is good but was a minus player which implies not great defensively so....ummmm, let's save some for OUR 2 huge UFA's in 2 years.

Agreed...teams supposedly losing money all over but the cap leaps? Same accountants that thought Fannie and Freddie loaning money to people with nothing down was wise, I guess.

Did McSplash do that with Hossa? I am not sure.

Bowman is feeling the heat and splashes big in hopes to improve his so far mediocre tenure.Who knows what the CBA will look like once Toews and Kane are up for new contracts. But admittedly, if the Hawks land Parise, I will get secretly excited even if whining about the cost.

The only way to spin getting either of them is because:

It's Rocky's fucking coin

The Cap appears to just keep going up

They would move via salary dump some valuable active roster assets now to not pass on what they see as more elite talent

The new CBA will likely allow the long-term contracts and grandfather in existing ones---they just don't want the severe tapering off towards the end

They will likely finally get a clue as a League and allow for a homegrown exception which would obviously go to Toews later

What a fucking circus sideshow. So sick of this years FA. Between Schultz, Parise, Suter, Doan, Ryan, blah blah blah hockeydramacakes.

Signing both would mean saying good buy to a significant player, not just the ussual suspects (Hammer, Monty, Frolik, Stalberg ect...).

This has got to be a bs tactic to make other teams re-drive up their offers----esp. with Parise. I can just barely buy that Suter might be re-interested because a week ago I felt the Hawks were a contender though yesterday's shenanigans sure make it seem like he wants the coin.

@CraigJButton: Not surprised by Chicago as suitor for Parise. Toews played at Shattuck's where Zach's Dad ran program & at North Dakota where Zach played.

And that is another reason on top of a mountain of reasons why I hate Craig Button. He's even dumber than Milbury.

Chicago's late push for Parise

4:42PM ET

Chicago Blackhawks

If it seems like Zach Parise has been linked to every NHL team in the last few weeks, it's because he practically has. Every organization would like him -- for obvious reasons -- but only a few can afford him and even less fit what he's specifically looking for.

One team that hadn't received very much buzz in the Parise sweepstakes until the last 24 hours, however, was the Chicago Blackhawks. That's changing now though. According to Jesse Rodgers of ESPN Chicago, the 'Hawks are a very real contender here. In fact, they could be one of the frontrunners in the race.

Part of the reason that Chicago wasn't getting much attention in terms of pursuing Parise was because the club has other needs that could be considered more pressing than adding additional offense. On top of that, they already have a strong leader in Jonathan Toews. But it's hard to deny just how dangerous this group would be if they added Parise to their talented mix of forwards.

Parise to Penguins?

Probably.

This whole circus has made me so confused today. WhenTF did the Flyers just disappear from serious contention? They had so much momentum for him yesterday. Whatever.
