'Canes out of Suter sweepstakes?

1:36PM ET

Carolina Hurricanes

Ryan Suter still hasn't made a choice just yet, but it appears all eyes are on him now. There's a growing feeling that Zach Parise may not finalize his own decision until Suter makes his, meaning the Nashville defenseman could be the first domino that really has to fall.

To that end, Suter seems to be trimming some teams from his list. According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Carolina Hurricanes are one of those clubs that are out of the running. Obviously, luring Suter to Raleigh would have been a huge pickup for the 'Canes -- essentially solidifying their blue line alongside the likes of Justin Faulk, Jamie McBain, Joe Corvo, Tim Gleason and Joni Pitkanen. But they still have a fairly solid defense corps without him and weren't necessarily one of the frontrunners to land him anyway.

Preds final offer to Suter?

11:48AM ET

Ryan Suter | Predators

UPDATE: According to ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun, Nashville Predators GM David Poile feels his offer to Ryan Suter "matches up with the big clubs" competing for the defenseman's signature, including the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins.

As reported earlier, Suter is expected to decide by the end of today if Poile's offer is enough to keep him in Nashville.

UPDATE: Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos suggests Ryan Suter will make his final decision on Monday, and may be leaning toward signing with the Detroit Red Wings.

However, Josh Cooper of the Tennesean reports the Nashville Predators believe they're still in the mix:

"Poile said they will put in a 'firm' offer to Suter to see where they stands. Will do the same with Weber ..."

UPDATE: According to Josh Cooper of the Tennessean, Ryan Suter will most certainly become an unrestricted free agent tomorrow (Sunday). GM David Poile can only hope the elite defenseman returns to the Nashville Predators after hearing from other teams -- Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild and others.

"Both parties have stated their case and fondness of each other," Poile said. "Starting tomorrow, in the next couple of days, you think there's going to be a marriage or a separation."

ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun suggests there's no rush -- Suter may not sign anywhere July 1. And the Predators will get a chance to make a final pitch before the ultimate decision is made (below).

Defenseman Ryan Suter appears headed for free agency. According to ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun, the Nashville Predators won't trade away the rights to the UFA-to-be ahead of July 1. It's a gamble, but the club's general manager hopes Suter will end up re-signing once he explores other options.

"It appears that Suter is going to go to July 1," Poile told ESPN.com Tuesday. "I'm going to meet with (his agent) on Friday, and we're going to talk again next week to see where we are. But it appears that's where he's heading. I'm keeping the faith. I don't think I'm going to trade his rights. It's all based on the fact that there's no indication to me that Ryan doesn't think Nashville is the right fit for him."

LeBrun reports Poile remains confident the Predators will ultimately emerge as the best choice for Suter.

Preds enjoy one advantage
"... The Suter camp has promised Nashville it will circle back to the Predators once offers have been fielded from other clubs. I don't think the Predators can match the up-front money I think some teams will offer. But the decision for Suter won't just be about money. He's going to be a rich man no matter what he does. Fit and lifestyle for his family will also be key ..."

Ok so it isn't like we're not trying. At least Stan isn't being an idiot today, either.

Jesus, Marian Hossa, and Joseph! If they're using up all their hyperbole reserves now and blowing their wads on the Suter-Parise circus then WTF is 2013 FA gonna be like when Shea Weber is a free man? And he really IS the shit. End Times? Global Thermonuclear War?

Stan's taking a PTO day today. Scotty's doing the leg work.

As long as McDonough stays far FAR away from the circus, then we should be able to obtain Parise.... I hope. Heavens knows we've been needing a second proven center for ages.

Well Canadian/American relations will be strained that is for certain.

I thought Canadian/American relations were already strained yesterday when those devious little American ******* Parise and Suter rightly deflected attentions away from Canada Day in order to set us up for our own glorious 4th of July?

Both would be Canadian, 'cept their Canadian fathers were playing in the states when they were birthed. Without these type of 'Mericans, our Olympic teams would really suck.

You guys just have to understand that McSplash is waiting for July 4 to announce the signing of the American who will liberate our top 6 and give them the freedom roam the lines in the positions they were born to lead.

Parise is listed as a left wing and he was a minus player last season. I hope we don't get too stupid here.

Ahhh. . .I see, I see. Thank goodness you're my old O-Boards buddy and still have my back by giving me the skinny.

I apologize for thinking you were a man when we were at the O-boards and for not tellin' ya 'bout IHN. If you didn't read books I'd be more comfortable with you.

I DEMAND to see proof of dual citizenship! I want papers. Fucking heresy. You make it sound like they could just waltz into Canada when they retire and decide to aspire to becoming PM there.
