A league source said the Hawks have to come up with a long-term offer worth around $100 million and with a $12 million signing bonus

Can't wait to hear people cry about that contract if he signed with the Hawks.

He wouldnt step on a team with Datsyuk/Zetteberg...Bertuzzi....and get the C

And....let them piss and moan all they want about the contract. I'd enjoy watching him as a Hawk

I don't want anything to do with this shit mess of a league. But if I were to take the position I can assure you there would be major changes

1) back to frozen cow shit for pucks (helps the farmers out)

2) Any playing of cotton eye joe will result in a 5 minute penalty

3) Abortions for some...mini American flags for others

Parise would be given the A instantly on this team.

I support this campaign platform!

I would too but I would hate the long term effect it may hold.

There is nobody in the league worth that kind of money.

Johnny walked right in and was made Captain of the Hawks.

Upon Googling I guess a positive for you all is that the fiancee is the ND college sweetheart and also hails from MIN. So if not the Wild I would think she would be inclined towards being a hop, skip, and a jump flight away from MIN and family. There's no ties to NJ or the east coast at least other tan the fact that they've been out there while he played.

I'm with TCD here.

That's a whole lot of money for a whole lot of years.

Not saying Parise isn't worth that money, but that's going to command 1/7 of the rosters cap space.

Think about the market in 5 years. $8M will be the new $5M.

I'd like to see how much the Cap has gone up each year.

Who was Toews competition?

And...if the "long term" effect is winning another cup within the contract/12yrs? Seeing Toews/Parise's compete level? I think Kane still stays too.

The cap will still be going up, year to year. Would probably lose Bolland...Hjarllmarsson...But with Toews/Kane/Hossa/Sharp....let the rotation of Saad, Hayesx2, Morin, McNeil....etc rotate when contracts of the others come up.

Wasn't many guys leading by example back then outside of him.

With 10K of that you can hire someone to do the dishes for you. Leaves 3.9 million to buy "linens and drapes" or whatever women spend men's money on...

I think Parise is the classic free agent that gets boosted by a weak market. On the other hand he is young and will get better. I was always a supporter of Sharp as captain. Which I know isn't popular. But I think it would work.

Parise is every bit of Toews as a player and a leader/captain. Every. Bit.

I don't agree. Parise is a top 10 LW in the league. He has an excellent work ethic and is looked up to by his peers. He has breakaway speed and great hands. His hockey sense is in the tops of the league and he works as hard in the defensive zone as he does in the offensive zone.

Now guys like Garrison, Hudler, Parenteau, Kuba and Whitney are classic examples of a weak UFA market so everyone must drive up their offer to have a chance.

keep in mind that I am hearing it will be a 100 mill for 12 years as fanof19 said (which is crazy) but that 12 mill signing bonus would be part of the 100 mill (split into 6 mill this year and 6 next). So cap wise its more around the 88 mill for 12 years that has to be worked in. Depending on how the shit is structured its going to average to about 7.5 mill a year cap hit. There is no cap issue with the signing. It's that 12 year shit that hurts and salary which i am sure Rocky would be somewhat hesitant to hand out..and I wouldn't blame him. Again figuring out what revenue return one could get through the attention and merchandising and branding the Parise name is the question. Parise def keeps this team playoff bound for many years and deep playoff runs should equal big revenue gains. (injuries etc of course being the risk in this business)

There are so many upsides and downsides if he came here but like pmx it would be something else to watch this team with Parise added. It gives me a boner thinking about another legit lw in the top 6.

There might be some players one could claim are worth it in terms of the cap hit over the years. There are definitely players already making it. If it's $100 mil over 12 then the cap hit is $8.3 Gaborik's cap hit is $7.5 mil per and Kovalchuk/Richards/Briere are all in that $6.7-ish range and Lecavalier's is $7.7. Geno and Sid are right there too. Though of course their actual salaries are more which is what the owners will bear as a market apparently.

Toews will eventually get coin like this.

I think we all gotta resign ourselves to the fact that if you ever want the Hawks to sign another BIG FA during these years of hoepfully contending that the FAs have shifted the dynamic even the younger FAs. They don't want to be hosed and moved around. You have to start thinking of your core as being really, really, long-term and set and likely ending out with you if you sign a youthful player. It's just the way it is. Only the bottom 6 guys are going to be truly, readily expendable. This goes for all teams.
