Just playing devils advocate but I don't think you can compare Howard to Crawford no matter what the monetary situation is. Although when I see Howard let one in from the Red Line I might change my mind. Didn't happen tonight.

I'm even starting to get impatient with Crawford. Not to mention it wouldn't be 6 mil as you'd have salary going the other way. You could get Miller and a top 5 D, but then the top 6 C they need would not be acquired, assuming there is one out there to be had. Then again Miller has another year after this.

I wasn't, actually. My point is that you worry about fixing the defense instead of wasting 6mil on a goalie.

And what salary would be going back?

The Sabres will never in a gazillion years take Olesz, I don't care what the prospects are.

They're not going to take Frolik, either.

My guess Morin is one of them. You also have guys like Odonnell, Lepisto, Frolik, Bickell..... Although I like froliks game his salary is on the high side for what he brings.

Here is who is in the pipeline:

LW:

Kyle Beach

Jeremy Morin

Brandon Saad

C:

Mark McNeill

Brandon Pirri

Kevin Hayes

Marcus Kruger

RW:

Ben Smith

Jimmy Hayes

D:

Shawn Lalonde

Dylan Olsen

With the exception of a couple of those guys (Beach/K. Hayes/McNeill)... those are all NHL ready prospects. We simply are already set at all forward positions... we need to trade some of those assets for some help on D. Luke Schenn is the perfect project to bring to Chicago.

EDIT: **** I forgot about Shaw. Not to mention a bunch of others I probably forgot. Fact is, there is a lot of talent and really no place on this team for it for the foreseeable future. Got to start leveraging your young players to help you NOW and also help said players' careers.

How do you know what the Sabres will take back? I'm sure people in Florida said the same thing about Olesz coming to the Blackhawks.

Amazing.

What's amazing is that you would imply that those two have trade value.

Nice to see your nonsensical pontificating skills are in mid-season form.

Dude, who do you think it would take for the Hawks to lose to get Miller and how in the hell would that be an acceptable loss when it'll hurt the team more than help it? Too much money tied up on the position most influenced and dependent on by everyone else on the ice. Use that cap space to improve the latter.

Well for starters you'd get rid of teh 2.5 mil on Crawford. Then say a player like Frolik another 2.5 mil. See how that works Jim.

Technically you could do both, depending on whats going the other way. If 5 were going back for Miller, you'd have plenty of space to shore up a 4-5 D man. I seriously doubt a 2nd line Center will be available, other than maybe the highest bidder. Three OTHER playoff teams are sitting very nice in cap space right now so the Hawks will not be the only one in on that forward position.

Olezs is not an option as he'd have to clear re entry waivers and would be gone with the Hawks being screwed with Half his Salary.

In my opinion, I think the Hawks stick to the orginal plan in focusing on a Dman first, then try to get the center if its out there, but I would try my hardest to get that D man or 2 if possible, its not the scoring its the D. I would love to have Miller but I don't see it happening, But I also see Emery start before season ends. Also If I recall correctly the year we won the Cup, people questioned our goalies then too. So Just beef up the D and lets focus on staying in the top 4 seeds.

I wish the hawks would hurry up and trade for miller so we can get to the rumors of who we are going to trade miller for. I think we could easily get Ruttu and Gleason for Miller.

Jim hasn't figured out math since the inception of the salary cap; what makes you think he will get it now?

I also haven't figured out why a player making 2.5M that was recently a healthy scratch would have any trade value.

Guess I got a lot to learn....

I bet Frolik has some to several GM's. The ONLY reason Bickell has not been sent to Rockford is they know first hand he won't clear waivers. Funny he's been a healthy scratch how many times??? Some teams poor players are another teams "gems". Wanna check out Sharp in Philly?

Suban was benched part of the game tonight, must not have any trade value.

PK Subban makes 875K per year with an expiring contract. He's also in his second season in the NHL.

Patrick Sharp had played less than 70 total NHL games in three partial seasons in the Flyers organization. I don't know what he was making, but I bet it wasn't much.

Michael Frolik is in his fourth NHL season, and is in the first year of a 2.5M contract. He's been underwhelming for the most part this year.

I doubt he's on many GMs wish list, he'll never be a "gem."
