Florida also shut out Dallas last night 6-0 (in Big D-- about 5000 people witnessed it).

Just playing Devil's advocate.
Not sure I understand the point you are trying to make?

They needed money to re-sign Patrick Sharp.

Couldn't do it without the Campbell move.

And yet here we are with Sharp signed 7 mil in cap space. You don't sign O'donnel and montador and you still have Campbell and 3.5 mil.

I could compile quite the list of players who were given ample opportunity in Florida, sucked, left and had good careers. But what's the point?

355 games played

57 goals

75 assists

132 points

Those stats blow for someone making 500K, let alone 3+ million

I'd love to see your list of players that turned that type of crap career around.

I do not believe that Sharp's new deal kicks in until next year, but I could be wrong.

PS: Can we get the "Report" button moved to the left side of the post?

Actually, that does bring up an excellent point. They have been sitting him and sitting him, why waive him now? Don't they still have to pay him if no one claims him? He's taking up a roster spot for sure, but so is John Scott and they still ice him for some reason. Why waive him now, is there a deadline I don't know about? Or is it maybe a clear indication that there is an actual move in the works?

This to me is almost frightening because I gotta imagine that if there is a deal in the works that needs this much cap space, wouldn't something pretty valuable on the hawks side have to go back in return?

well w/ the extra Cap room, should make the Hawks players at the deadline to add to the skill they have, but more importantly offers them flexibility to pick up a stop gap should there be any serious injuries (Heaven forbid), and a good one at that

Parise would be awesome, but i don't see that happening...and the Crosby thing w/ Kuc..ridiculous!! Anyone think maybe Sam Ganger may be worth taking a look at--you know he has chemistry w/ Kane...or should they shy away from another smaller forward...just spit-ballin' here...

just off the top of my head...Niklas Hagman, Steve Montador, Kristan Huselius, Jaro Spacek.

Florida has a nack of ruining prospects worse than any other franchize. If you were drafted in the first round in Florida, you were in the NHL as a 18 year old, every year. Ready or Not.

The list of ruined first round picks by Florida is massive. maybe after this season we can add Frolik to the list of players who turned around a lot since leaving Florida.

Ahh that's right, you are correct, next year it bumbs up to 6. That's 1.8 more. But that's next year. And even if that was this year, You'd still be 1.7 under the cap, with slugs to waive. haha. Plus whatever deals you're making at the deadline might be sending money the other way as well. I just hate that there is seemingly no reason other than cap space (apparently for next year) that he was traded, and yet Stan has his job because he's a numbers wizard.

who could possibly have a cap hit that big, and be on a basement team that would likely move him for picks/prospect package?

Rick Nash?? lol

what about centers?

Jeff Carter?

the winter trade deadline is in what? two weeks?

I wasn't thinking the trade would take up the whole hit, but more that they needed more space to make a major move and still have deadline space.

Ruined first round picks, or first round picks that were never that good to begin with? Frolik hasn't done anything more with the Hawks than he did with Florida. Maybe Florida just wasn't very good at drafting players. Regardless, Olesz is a fringe NHL player who got a contract he didn't deserve. The Hawks won't miss him.

go big or go home. I prefer big deals before the official deadline anyway. Get chemistry going. It's hard to do that in 12 games.

Frolik has been excellent in the shutdown role here. Not everything is about points. He is playing on the third line, and has been a solid addition. I would take him over Bickell any day. Frolik has been playing much better here than he did in Florida. Will he get the 20 goals per season he got in Florida? Tough to say. But he was excellent in the playoffs, and has great chemistry with Bolland.

I don't disagree, I just didn't want to seem like I was implying that this waive means that they are going huge. I have no fucking clue.

He's playing with better players than he did in Florida. He's no different as a player here, than he was in Florida. He just fits in better here, has less pressure, and has been given a stable line to play with. Either way, it has nothing to do with Olesz. If the Hawks could have bought him out immediately after acquiring him, they would have. He was never going to be with this team long term. Most are surprised he played a single game in the indian head. Myself included.

I'm assuming that this part of your post has to do with Frolik.

just a few things

Less Pressure in front of 22k of opposed to 6k?

and if you watched him in Florida, he was super soft, one way player. He has started hitting and playing defensively.

It was comedy for the day! At least give him that one!

Sam will probably be able to be had. Smaller line but we were talking about that the other night. Instant Chemistry.

I think the options at the TDL are endless. This team/organization is going to push for another Cup now.

This argument about Olezs not getting a shot and or being better than Stalberg is just plain dumb. WTF cares about either one. I'd rather keep the guy getting 800k with 7 points in his last 9 games or what ever it is.

But either I don't give a flying ****. Neither will be key in this teams run to the Cup. If there is one.

And further if this was to open a spot for Ben Smith than fucking awesome.... Ben Smith >>>>> OLEZS
