In a sane and logical world, I agree he gets the axe.

But this is the big thing about Q that no one is mentioning: he is a Scotty Bowman type coach. The only thing he does differently is that he is a little more friendly with the guys. Read Ken Dryden's book and you will learn plenty about how Scotty coached. He may have tempered with age, but he was a real Son of a ***** back in Montreal. He had some of the best talent EVER to play the game and he was still playing mind games with them and benching the superstars to get in their heads.

So let me throw this out to you guys. Let's assume we lose to the Rangers tonight. If we lose to columbus does Q get canned after that? Personally I just don't see how you keep the guy after the worst team in the league hands you your 11 loss in a row when your next two are Detroit and St.Louis.

If it goes past 10 a fundamental change will be made IMO. Could be coaching or a major change in the roster, maybe a "core" player moved or a goal tending shake up.

Something tells me that Q will remain until our season/post season is over.

How long after that he remains will depend on the post-season performance, lack thereof, or lack of post-season.

realistically I tend to agree with you but I really hope it doesn't come to that. I think a new coach will ensure we get to the playoffs and the sooner Joel is gone the better the chances. That is not to say Q won't get us to the playoffs again but I just have no confidence in him.

and how they may or may not want to eat his contract. They gave him a fat juicy extension, and they would still have to pay him if they canned him, unless they made him an advisor.

For some reason my memory is foggy, but wasn't Tallon "promoted" too?

I thought he was a team ambassador, like what Savy is.

They could always do that...but still...I have a feeling that if there is a coaching change, it won't happen during the season. If I'm wrong please feed me the crow.

[sub]My main concern with the Hawks since (and including) banner raising night, is that we RARELY have games anymore where we have the puck more than our opponent. This exposes our defense and goaltending and it's borne out of this notion that we have to move the puck UP the ice even if we have to give it away. Now I know that there are times of crisis when you have to just shoot it down the river, but when not pressured, this team for a LONG time just has not been coached to value puck possession. They are being coached to dump and the lines are constantly jumbled which tells me Q has no clue what he's doing...or he just cannot make a decision and stick to it. That leads to no chemistry which kills possessing the puck.[/sub]

[sub]I would like for us to try bringing Torchetti back after the season if we don't see this corrected.[/sub]

Thank you Scotty Bowman for saving Q's job by teaching him how to coach.

Thing is, Scotty shouldn't have to be holding his hand. If Q needs his hands being held, that is a huge problem in my mind.

if Scotty wants to coach behind the scenes, I'm fine with that if it wins us games.

0/39 PP stretch. More than a month since they last scored on the PP. So bad that it actually gives the OTHER team momentum. The Hawks managed 19 total shots...WITH SIX POWER PLAYS. The PK is back to sucking as well. Every problem with the team's play that we saw during the losing streak, we saw the last two games back in full force. Forwards have zero defensive responsibility on this team. Defense is timid and doesn't protect the net. Line juggling is back in force. This team is a hot fucking mess. They make fundamental mistakes all game long. They cannot complete even simple plays without fucking up. It's like they don't ever practice anything together. Guys can't get pucks out of the zone. Guys can't hit players on the tape with passes. Terrible turnovers. Clusterfuck of defensive positioning. Can't keep pucks in at the blue line. This team looks like it just broke training camp, every game. Total lack of preparation for games. It's pathetic really, with the talent on this roster.

Uptown baby!

And rightly so. Because he still needs to be GONE. The mini-win streak was nice, kept them afloat a bit but IMO was really the players hitting rock bottom in terms of pride once they realized from the press that the general tenor of the the fandom as well as some media were starting to blame coaching for a large chunk of their problems (along with the personnel holes of course!). What group of dudes wants to concede that their coach really is ineffective and that they kind of don't give a shit what he says and so their play and lack of morale leads to him being sacked? There was really no where for them to go but back up at least for a bit. Will likely happen again and just be a cycle. Between my feelings that the Q/Kitch Bromance of Clusterfuckery drags them down, plus the legitimate holes and deficiencies to their roster, and NOW the recent spate of injuries with Montador being out maybe the rest of the season, Hjalmarsson, Toews, Sharp still needing wrist surgery once the season is over I just feel it's all too, too much to overcome in terms of being able to realistically deliver the team game play for consistent winning/win streaks. Eh, we'll see what happens and where we are at Game 82 but I have a big ole "it is what it is" resignation feeling about the whole thing.

Oy vey. . .this season.
