Just like everyone's pissed off that Hendry signed Soriano, when the Tribune added 2 years to the deal, and Soriano was coming off a tremendous season, and did VERY well in 07 and 08, bad in 09, and respectably in 2010. It would only have 2 years left if the Tribune didn't add time.

If the NL does indeed add a DH in 2012, then we have an actual DH already.

As soon as Chris Archer becomes a Cy Young Award Winner (not saying he will), everyone will be calling for Hendry's head.

If we were a team with playoff aspirations, I'd be OK with it. It simply wasn't the right time to make a move like that IMO, this isn't 2008.

It's not just a move for this year, though. It improves the team down the line, too.

By adding a number 2 starter? Isn't that what Archer was supposed to be for an extra 3 years of team control?

He isn't a huge impact player.

Key word.

There is no guarantee that he is ever going to be that. There isn't even a guarantee that he will ever make him MLB debut. I would say he has about a 2% chance of actually being a 2 starter.

There's no guarantee that Matt Garza will ever have an ERA under 3.50 or will ever win a game with the Cubs too.

The likelihood of that happening is a lot higher than Archer ever even making the big leagues.

I'm not mad that we traded him. I'm pissed that we trade him, Lee, Guyer, and others for a guy who isn't even an ace.

And we responded with an excellent trade of Gorzo that replaced Guyer, and "other guys."

We basically gave up:

Lee
Archer
Guyer
Fuld
Chirinos
Gorzo

In return we got:

Garza
Perez
Rosscup
Hicks
Morris
Burgess

It's really not that bad, especially considering we are pretty good C and SS and Lee and Chirinos are blocked.

Lee was not blocked at all. He or Castro could have moved to 2nd base. Unless, of course, you are saying that you'd allow Blake DeWitt to block one of your top prospects.

Maybe the Cubs would of done that with Lee but the Cubs do have so many MI in their system. Maybe they won't be as good but I think one MI will play good and help the Cubs.

Oh my god. Lee is a SS. Castro is a SS. How is Lee not blocked? A possible solution would be to move one of them.

Let's say we move Lee to 2B. Then his bat becomes even worse, although he could be a really stellar defender, his bat would be awful there.

Let's say we move Castro to 2B. His bat is no guarantee to hold up there either.

They both get their value at SS. We can only have 1 SS. Would you rather we gave up Castro? Didn't think so.

The plan was to move one, he wasn't BLOCKED, because they had a solution. All I'm saying.

Not really, there are plenty of young #2 and #3 starters out there.

The Cubs are loaded with MI and middle of the rotation starters. So it's a wash.

They gave up a higher value than they got back, I'll keep it that way.
