IMO had he agreed to go to Rockford he'd have already been in the NHL. Financially I don't think he wanted to do it. Understandable at his point. Now, being the Stanley Cup Champs, with a clear opportunity to do it again, SOON, he appears to see the light.

Good for him. I've always been on the Makarov Wagon.

I also thought Crawford looked pretty good.

[1] Agreed. The KHL has seemingly been a waste of his time.

[2] That's because the wagon is fucking AWESOME! I know the prospect of him becoming a Hawk some day has always given me the warm fuzzies inside. :D
It's only one day of a two week Camp. Just wait and see where it goes.

Personally I agree with you though as he's the real deal. No doubt about it. Plus it will give me some time to pat my back if he does what I think he can do.
I've been high on him for a couple years now. He's just the total package. Not often you see a guy coming out of Russia that plays as good a two-way game as he does, and is as physical as he is, without having played a single game of pro hockey in North America. He broke up several plays before they even got started by being in great position on the opposing team's breakout, and he laid the hurt on several guys today. I know some people will call me crazy, but I think of Jagr whenever I see Makarov play.

I realize it's just the first day of a two-week camp, but you can tell just from watching the guys practice who has NHL ready tools, and who doesn't. If I had to make a bet on who I think is going to make the team out of camp, I'm going with the following:

Bickell

Makarov

Skille

Stalberg

Dowell

Obviously things can change, but I just have a feeling that's what we will see. Personally, I would love to see Makarov on the LW with Sharp and Kane, or Toews and Hossa. I thought he was a RW, but it seemed like the coaching staff had him playing the left wing all day today. Maybe they are thinking the same thing I am? We'll see what happens.
Did Marty play and how did he look??
Marty did play. His puck handling was as advertised, but he let in a couple so-so goals. He also had a few "OH SHIT" moments handling the puck. Didn't seem too focused, really. Was doing a lot of post to post work and working on his footwork when the play was in the other end of the ice. Just seemed bored, really. heh

I thought Crawford looked good. He was definitely the sharpest of the netminders today.

For right now at least I too agree with the likelihood of those 5 picks you listed---that's the way I basically see it too. I would LOVE to see Makarov on a line with Toews-Hossa and then I'd go balls out and try all that unreal speed of Stalberg with the speedy Kane-Sharp compliment. Morin appears to be playing himself into a sweet position in Rockford whereby if he continues to hustle I don't see him having to play there for anything more than a pitstop.

3 on your list were a lock unless they have a really poor camp.

Skille

Bickell

Dowell

Makarov only makes this team if he has an outstanding Camp and makes them fit him in. Both he and Beach know this going in.

Agreed on Stahlberg. Will be nice to see where Vishnevsky (sp) lands.

There are a few spots open, but some very good talent going after them.

All Igor has to do is lose the FUGLYASS mullet once he's in the Big Show. But not until he makes it. . .wouldn't want to taunt the hockey gods if the mullet serves as some sort of psycho-Samson device bringing him the good mojo, lol.

Jagr rocked the mullet for YEARS! If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Vishnevskiy looked pretty good out there, I'm just not sure where he fits in. There's really just no spot for him. I think Scott is a lock for the 6/7 dman spot. His combination for size/physical play/skating/toughness is just too much to pass up. Then you have Hendry/Boynton... I dunno.

Not to mention a man with a mullet scored the biggest hawks goal in the last 50 years.

I was really surprised by Scott's skating ability, btw. Usually you see big men like him looking awkward out there and plodding around. He was actually a really smooth skater, and looked pretty good back there on defense. I guess he's been working on his skating all summer, and it really showed. An upgrade over Boynton, IMO. Hendry also looked pretty damn good back there.
Ah-hem!

What number was Scott wearing?

The Makarov reports are no surprise, I was at the same camp RK was (sitting together actually) and knew he was going to be good. Sounds like the 2 years he spent in the KHL, playing against men, really helped his game.

In Beach's interview it sounds like he knows Rockford is in his future.

Yes, he sure did.

I just hope he takes advantage of his opportunities there & proves he belongs in the bigs.

I really do want to see him succeed, he sure as hell has the tools to do so.

Oh & thanks to everyone for providing the tidbits of info.

I had a brain fart & forgot it was streaming until it was almost over.

From what I saw, I loved Morin, the speed of Stahlberg, and Makarov made me the type that will be wanting his number on a jersey... With what he showed today, he's definitely making a fanboy out of me if he makes the club, which will not be surprising if he kept all that up... Morin is also quite amazing to watch. Him and Pirri work well together, it seems... So does Stahlberg with Hossa. I like how they were testing Stahlberg with Hossa out there, and it seemed like a good fit.

I hate to even admit this, but even Cullimore really tried hard out there. And no, I'm not purpling that. He deserves some kudos out there for trying.

He was wearing 32. Are you saying you disagree? Hard to understand exactly what you're saying with that post. I thought, FOR A GUY HIS SIZE, he was a pretty smooth skater. I mean, he's Chara's size, and I didn't think he was giving up any skating ability to Chara when I saw him today. Granted, it's an extremely small sample size, but he seems to be a decent skater. I should also mention that I thought he took himself out of position way too often trying to step up and make a big hit, and he needs to figure out when to pinch, and when not to pinch. I was just commenting on his skating ability, nothing more.

I wouldn't really call the KHL a waste of his time, while not getting ice time he still gotten to play with men in the second best men's league in the world and that's why he looks so ready compared to other prospects who have mostly just been playing in junior leagues.

I do hope Makarov keeps it up and wont get discouraged if it happens he gets sent down.

Eh, Makarov's game already looked better and more accomplished than most other prospects when he was at camp two years ago and that I will absolutely attribute to the fact that he had already been playing for SKA when the Hawks drafted him in 2006 as well as being a product of a good Russian youth hockey school. He was a well-coached kid, period. But I believe in response to RK's statement that I was responding to I think saying it's been a waste is a valid assessment in terms of the couple of years since the Hawks last had him over. I simply agree with RK that based on the talent and potential he was bringing to the table two years ago he probably would be a de facto roster spot in the NHL now instead of vying for a coveted Hawks spot if he'd have agreed to stay in NA, play in the AHL, and acclimate himself to the NA game. Igor himself stated yesterday after Day 1 that the most challenging thing for him right now is learning the North American game as it's new for him so IMO that lends some credence to the notion that he could have been better served of late playing here (especially when one looks at his minutes with the switch to Dynamo and their woeful under-use of him).

Even though I watched the scrimmages yesterday I can't definitively recall or list the rosters for the RED team, WHITE team, and BLACK team. Of even more interest to me is if someone can recall what the lines and D pairings were specifically for the different teams? I can recall some basics, i.e., Morin was out there with Pirri or Hossa playing with Stalberg but not the majority of what each team seemed to be rolling. Anyone?

I will say is was useful for me that some of the players I was looking to keep an especial eye out for the Hawks conveniently numbered 25 (Stalberg), 26 (Makarov), and 27 (Morin), LOL!
