I agree that they should stand firm, but I am not so certain that they can hold a team hostage at the deadline. For one thing the odds are that at least one of the suitors maybe two (NYY, BOS, and TOR) will be out of it by the deadline which removes a lot of the leverage the Cubs have right now in the idea that if they don't ante up their division rival will get him. Also part of the selling point with Garza is having two years of team control. It is certainly possible that they could get an equal, or even more, return at the deadline, but I think there are pretty unique circumstances that make now the time to trade Garza.

It'd be a great time to trade him, no doubt. At least one of the suitors currently being rumored could very well be out of contention at the time but that doesn't mean they will be the only ones interested at that time. Other teams could put their name into the hat at that point.

Yankees Prospects

2011 Prospect Watch | cubs.com: Prospects

Manny Banuelos is the #2 prospect and #13 in all of MLB.

I also really like Dellin Betances who is ranked #3 and #22. I think he gives us the power pitcher and the size 6'8" that we do not have right now.

Blue Jays Prospects

2011 Prospect Watch | cubs.com: Prospects

The prospects I have seen mentioned are RHP Derek McGuire and OF Jake Marisnick.

If the Yanks are willing to part with Banuelos in a deal, I am driving Garza to the airport. The question has always been whether or not they were really willing to part with a guy like him in a deal.

It is certainly possible, but one thing that seems to be driving Garza's value up is his experience in the AL bEast. It is possible that you get more later, but I think playing the Blue Jays, Yankees and Red Sox off of each other is going to net us the highest return.

Remember how much we gave up for Garza? I think we'll be able to get a similar return for him.

Might be a bit less as he's a year older and has one less year of club control, but I think that expectation is reasonable.

That has been my expectation in a deal. Two top 100 prospects and a couple of other interesting guys for Garza seems reasonable compared to what Latos and Gonzalez got (given that they are worth more due to being under club control longer and production) and the scarcity of top of the rotation pitching now.

Yes.

Within reason and context. It's obviously part of the evaluation process.

STFU.

If Theo could pull this off I'd lulz.

McNutt isn't even Prior. He doesn't have that kind of stuff. McNutt should be a bullpen arm. I've always said he'd make a great closer prospect, reminds me a lot of Papelbon actually. As a starter he reminds me a shit ton of AJ Burnett and Josh Beckett.....the bad versions.

I never said it wasn't apart of the evaluation process. I think you're putting too much weight on what these guys have done in short, very short times at the major league level.

I'm not saying McNutt has the stuff that Prior does. I'm saying he's going to be injured his whole career.

And I think you're a moron.

Great.

Trey McNutt has had what? Blister issues? That's a far cry from Prior's shoulder blowing up. Your comparison sucks.

For some reason I also thought McNutt had either elbow or shoulder problems. Was I mistaken?

I thought he had an on field collison that caused in injury. Yep it was a rib injury from a collison with Vitters.

Amusing that the Cubs prospects are trying to break each other eh :cubstroll:

Seriously though, that stuff sucks.

Point stands. Blisters and ribs being hurt from collision with Vitters =/= to Mark Prior's shoulder exploding repeatedly.

I am sure there is a joke in there about that being the most solid contact Vitters made all year...

When did anyone say that it was? I'm merely stating that I think the injuries are going to be a reoccurring thing. I'm not saying that he was born with genetic looseness in his shoulder like Prior was.

You're right that blister problems and a rib injury are vastly different than shoulder issues, though I suppose one could argue that Prior being allowed to pitch after colliding with Marcus Giles was at least part of the arm problems he suffered. I think the more apt comparison would have been Ismael Valdez, but since that was a bit before CO's time I understand why he didn't make that comparison.

I like that

Although I thought Vitters' problem wasn't lack of contact, but lack of patience. Dude doesn't like to walk, right?

He strikes out a ton too I thought.
