Not winning the world series is a failure and this is how we should hold Ricketts responsible.

Sure you have to get to the playoffs.. advance yea yea..

It's nice to win divisions but if you don't win it. Its a failure albeit not a total failure cause ya didn't lose 90 games. Still the point remains the same.

Being the best team in a season means nothing to me. The World Series trophy is the only thing that matters.

whether or not the season is a failure because the team does not do well in the playoffs is completely subjective imo

this is my thought...

i will say though that we were arguably one of the best if not the best team in the majors(maybe rays and angels have something to say about that..but we had the highest win differential..we still had as good a shot as anyone to make the title..after 08 we started to fall off because our free agents were beginning to lose production and players left...that was the end of our window to win a championship..and we fell hard to the ground like dogs)

would i consider it truly a failure?

hard to really go that far...but a disappointment..hell ya

ETA:when i type fast, grammar goes out the window lol...im like gaytor

Breaking News:Carlos Zambrano Cleans Out Locker, Walks Out

How the hell do we go from discussing if they were the best to whether it was a failure?

I like hearing views of players and coaches from other teams on this.

Good read, especially coming from Cub hating Ozzie. He does not really defend Zambrano at all.

Honestly, who cares if the Cubs were the best in 2008 or if it was a failure? This franchise, as a whole, is a failure. Overrating talent, overpaying players, over-playing players (see Prior/Wood during Baker era), drafting poorly, and the list goes on & on. I'm a Cub fan for life but at this point it is just such an embarrassment that I may give up the entire game of baseball. I'm not jumping to the Sox, because I'm loyal to a fault at times, & honestly other than 1yr (which every Sox fan born in the last half century will hang their hat on for the rest of their life) they haven't been particularly better than their North-side rivals.

I was hoping & praying by some miracle when the Cubs went up for sale that Mark Cuban would buy them (And every Sox fan was shitting in their pants praying it didn't happen). But like all things Cubbie, it was a family of "fans" that took over. Great, that's all we need another family trying to run an iconic franchise. Nothing HAS changed & nothing is going to change with these jamokes at the helm. And if Big Z is back in a Cub uniform next season, I am done watching baseball.

1 thing is for certain: If Big Z was on the White Sox & pulled this shit, their friendship would be over.

And Guillen states that Z was "more embarrassed than anything else. About his performance." And the last part of that statement explains alot about Z. His is now, & always will be, all about himself. He's a petulant child who has gotten away with anything thanks to the enablers in the FO & the jellyfish in the locker room.

Though it seems the tide may be turning:

"It’s not like it’s something new,’’ said Dempster, who doesn’t expect Zambrano to pitch again for the team. ‘‘It’s been one after another. We’ve learned to deal with it pretty good."

‘‘He’s been doing a lot of things —not one, not two,’’ left fielder Alfonso Soriano said. ‘‘He’s a big man, but I think mentally he’s weak. I think he needs to find some guy to talk to him because he’s got a problem. A lot of people try to help him, but he doesn’t let them help, because that’s him.’’

‘‘We’ve had other instances of him not being the teammate I would [like] him to be,’’ Hendry said. ‘‘Not all of that is public.’’

Thanks for the Kudos, but I don't get into these "who's smarter: cub or sox fan" arguments. Both teams have equally Special person fans, imho. With any sports franchise in this town, there's the drones, which unfortunately comprise about 80-85% of any fanbase.

I agree. I was merely stating that you are a fan that doesn't tolerate the same old BS over and over again which is a good thing.

In my honest opinion, Z is bored of baseball and this is his escape play.

you have to understand that there are a lot of Cub fan apologists out there. Why? I have no idea. The sox and cub fans are totally different when it comes to their team(s)

Like what you stated, the cubs are a failure of a franchise when it comes to the actual game of baseball, and winning. They have no structure from the top to the bottom, and it is sad for cub fans.

Atleast you see what is going on, you are like a sox fan when it comes to your team....critical....and thats how fans should be. Just because one is a fan doesnt mean they should take the homer route everytime and make every negative issue a positive one, and that is what I dont get about a lot of cub fans.

Now if Big Z ever pitches again for the cubs, the cubs would be the laughing stock of the MLB.

You mention Ricketts:

Check this video out.

Go to 1:44 and about 10 secs later you get hit with some BS. This is Joe Ricketts Toms dad.

Apparently pointing out anything positive makes one an apologist...
