The part where we were the best team in baseball.

1) Angels had a better record
2) Rays has the same record
3) You lost game 1
4) You lost game 2
5) You lost game 3 ( Which is a sweep )
6) Total Wins for regular season, (97) after playoffs were over, the total number of cubs wins for the year including playoffs (97)

I honestly thought the White Sox were going to win the WS that year.

Good pitching, good defense and veterans who had done all that before. Albeit Boston had that too.

The level of reporting on Zambrano moving his things back or not makes me believe more in something that AceCubbie wrote at BleacherNation. That the Cubs are going to try to argue that Zambrano actually retired. It is a flimsy argument given the official procedures that have to be done, but it appears more and more likely that the Cubs are going to fit tooth and nail to get out of paying Zambrano more money.

As long as Z doesn't do the paperwork I can't see the Cubs winning this one

It was an idea that was put forward by AceCubbie, but I could also try to claim that Zambrano actions somehow voided his contract. I am not sure what exactly since I have never seen Zambrano's contract, and I also doubt that they will win any such argument. I just think it is interesting since it really seems like the Cubs are going to run Z out of town and try to be on the hook for the least amount in the process.

I think the years is less likey than the money to be honest. Teams are reluctant to even go 5 years anymore. Lets put the money in perspective, do you think Mark Buehrle is going to get more of less money than CJ Wilson this offseason? Buehrle is getting paid 14 million this year. Do you think he is going to get less money this offseason after the season he is having?

I think Buerhle's age prevents him from getting a contract of 15 million or more per year.

Cubs had the best run differential and best pyth record. I'll take that over those six as best team in base all.

Cubs were the best team in 2008 pretty cut and dry. The Great Crapshoot is not a good way to see who was the best. Hell neither is win loss.

That's only half of Sosa's gimmick.

The other half was whenever someone would ask him about juicing:

"No speak de ingles."

So you are in front of congress in a country where they speak a language that is not your language.

Sure you speak it fairly well but one wrong move or misunderstanding could land you in prison.

You want a translator?

Ahh I see, so the trophy doesnt matter aye? Just as long as they are the best team in the regular season thats your championship?

I call BS. More like a scapegoat or something you and CO can hang your hat on for the biggest choke job that year.

For who is the best team? No.

Were the 2005 Cardinals the best? No.

Why did it take 9 years for the Yankees to win again?

The world series winner is rarely he best team.

Had the cubs won in 2003 I would not have said they were the best team. Hell they were better in 2004 and missed the playoffs. It's not a "scapegoat" it's logic.

I never said that's "our championship" just said they were the best team in baseball that year. Losing three games in a row does not change that fact.

So if your team rocks all regular season, you dont get nervous about the playoffs right? I mean why even really watch the playoffs at that point?

Great, not every year the best teams wins. congrats! doesnt change the fact that 2008 was a failure. If not winning a WS title is what you crave you either have low expectations, scapegoat, or just dont know much about baseball.

To defend the 2008 cubs because they rocked in the reg season and choked in the playoffs is really sad.

Im not going to call you names since I have a bit more respect for you than CO, but I will choose to ignore dumb posts. Again, not calling you dumb, calling your posts dumb....I dont want any confusion on that.

LOL.

Oh dear.

Was it a wasted season? Sure.

Were they the best team? Yes.

You haven't even argued that. You went on a whole different tangent about other things.

Winning the WS does not mean you are the best team. It means you got hot at the right time.

Heaven forbid I ever defend my team. What a sin it is.

Not winning the world series is a failure and this is how we should hold Ricketts responsible.

Sure you have to get to the playoffs.. advance yea yea..

It's nice to win divisions but if you don't win it. Its a failure albeit not a total failure cause ya didn't lose 90 games. Still the point remains the same.
