As for the Z affair, if he does actually retire, that would be the best thing to happen to this team since we won the division in 08.

oh 2008 again? what was the "best thing" about 2008? the first round sweep? idiot. keep living in the past dope.

Can you remind me about this "best thing" that happened in 08? Im still waiting for a response on this subject.

Wasnt there :sweep::sweep: involved in the first round?

you played 3 extra games and lost all of them.

My god why on earth did you post this twice. I get it you think we should think that 2008 was complete failure and should be more happy about a team that is about to lose 90 games than a team that lead the league in wins.

He didn't say 2008 was great or that we should throw a parade for the 2008 team. He said Z retiring would be the best thing that has happened to this team since it won 97 games. I am trying to think of something better that has happened since 2008, but Z retiring would be the best thing. CO isn't always right, but he does get a few things right including what he said in that post above.

I hope no one actually thinks that's a good starting rotation.

I've seen numerous posters arguing that the rotation would be "fine" next year by just being healthy. These were mostly found in the Soriano power drop thread which devolved into arguing about which one big FA would do the most to improve this team next year. My guy is the guy whose picture was posted in this thread.

Cubs will now for sure have to make SP the number 1 need in offseason. Cubs will now need 2 SP :(

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Onley tweeted that a buyout of Zambrano's would be 20 cents on the dollar, so about 4.4 million dollars to keep the guy away.

If zambrano does show up today, it'd be worthwhile offering him a buyout--about 20 cents on the dollar, of $22m owed--to go away

I wouldnt give him more than 10 and thats pushing it. You guys really overrate him.

That is simply ridiculous to think that he isn't worth more than 10 million. He is putting up a better year than he did the last season where he racked up 200 innings with a 3.35 ERA in the AL in a hitters ballpark.

Why is he overrated? What don't you like about him?

The Onley tweet suggested offering a buyout and he threw out the 20% number. Would make sense for both sides in actuality, and would be a decent deal for both sides (way more decent for the Cubs).

I don't think anyone knows at this point. It would be interesting to know though.

Bleacher Nation just had a bullet on the buyout angle which is both accurate and what I fear:
Keep in mind, “negotiating a buyout,” as everyone seems to be suggesting, is not that simple. A couple years ago, the Dodgers tried to do just that with Andruw Jones. After some serious blowback from the Players’ Association, the Dodgers and Jones agreed instead to a restructured contract that would pay him all the money he was owed over a long period of time. It simply isn’t easy to get a player to walk away from cash.

the best thing since............would be starlin castro, moving milton bradley....etc. those are comparable. he talks about 2008 all the time, all the time, great you won 97 games and got swept, it was a failure. so to keep bringing up 2008 in some context every chance he gets is fucking stupid. its 2011, going on 2012
