Brett Taylor at Bleacher Nation is the one who made that particular rendering, and yes Fisch the choice of DeRosa was very deliberate on Brett's part.

didn't know...just saw a link to picture on official cubs forum

Because spending money equals championships. I mean that is why the team sucks now.

it was how it was said. there is zero guarentee. to make such bold statements seems like a plea for the casual fans to buy in before interest is lost.

We can only hope the jumbotron isn't really that big.

It looks awful.

Even worse than the spacecraft that landed in Soldier Field.

Just hideous.

i wouldve liked to see them move to rosemont.. the area they wanted to offer was a great location for fans to get to from any direction off of 294 and 90.

the same area has built up with bars, restaurants, and entertainment like the casino to attend after the games if you choose.
or if you prefer downtown, the highway right there and its a quick drive.

but thats not happening..

i dont think the jumbotron and improvement in and around the park will be as bad as some think it will be, i get the traditionalist who enjoy the old park as it once was but its time to move on and into the 21st century.
it will take time to get used to for us that been going to games there for years but in order to create new fans ( the younger generation) ,they need to bring WF up to date to attract these fans to come .
sure an improved and winning team will help, but to gain and keep interest of the under 20 generation ( the future fans ) to want to attend games and keep coming back you need to give them some type of entertainment outside of the actual game on the field to make their stay a bit more enjoyable and want to return and experience their fun again.

I want to know how doing all of this locks up a world series.

yes it was a bold statement but my guess is in his thinking..
the tron will bring in advertisers which will bring in extra income, which should increase payroll..
the improvements in and around WF , added night games could attract the bigger name FAs that would prefer other teams ( all money being close to equal ) simply because they have better clubhouses, workout facilities, etc. along with not having to play tremendous amount of day games.

plus it will help in keeping their own FAs who might take a hometown discount to stay..

And thank goodness for that.

A move to Rosemont would have been the dumbest thing possible and would have destroyed attendance.

Wrigley Field is the real star of the Cubs.

It is the reason the Cubs have consistently outdrawn the White Sox over the last 10-15 years despite the Sox putting out a consistently better ballclub.

Many, many, many people go to Cubs games to see the ballpark, not the team.

You move the team to a new ballpark in Rosemont and put as crappy a team on the field as last year and this year and they probably wouldn't draw even two million fans much less the close to 3 million they drew last year.

About a million fans a year at an average ticket price of close to $50 is a lot of money.

This has to be either bearz or willrust

They were the only two on CBS claiming how the Cubs couldn't win without the Jumbotron lol

plus it will help in keeping their own FAs who might take a hometown discount to stay..

They already were getting players who played for the Cubs at a discount.

Andre Dawson came to the Cubs on a massive discount.

A-Ram resigned with the Cubs on a discount.

Lee resigned with the Cubs rather than test the open market.

Kerry Wood came back to the Cubs on a discount.

Soriano signed with the Cubs for less than he was offered elsewhere.

Let's stop with the braindead sheep thinking of what has been spoonfed to you that the team needs a Jumbotron to win games or that all of this was needed to fix up the clubhouses.

They have had three years to fix up the clubhouses which likely would cause less than a couple million to do which is chump change for a franchise worth an estimate billion dollars.

But it hasn't been a priority because it doesn't give the team more profits.

And stop with the myth about day games also. That is just as dumb.

This isn't the 80's anymore when the Cubs played no night games at home.

I believe the average major league team plays around 50-52 home night games a year. The Cubs play 30. It isn't a massive difference.

The Cubs want the extra night games for one reason, more money. Not because it will help make them a better team. That is ridiculous.

The Cubs have squandered the natural advantage they have over visiting teams with the day games. Any team that has an advantage at their own park and don't exploit it has no words to describe how awful of a team that is.

As for Wrigley, you could have moved it anywhere on the North side and it wouldn't have affected attendance. Sheep, remember, and the true fans would have had an easier time getting there. I could have seen a bump in attendance, and quite significantly especially since the park would probably be a 45,000 seat stadium and cut down on the Iowa out of town drive.

i also feel attendance wouldnt of been a problem in Rosemont and wouldve seen an increase not only because of more seat capacity but because it wouldve drawn more fans from the far west suburbs, wisconsin, indiana with the much easier drive..

i also agree with one of the guest that was on chicagosportstalk a few weeks back when he said that rosemont wouldve lost most of the i just want to attend WF to drink and have a good time fans but gained more family orientated fans..

the location was perfect, for fans to get to from all over without the congestion.. near airport, highway, and public transportation and it wouldve had its own parking near the stadium.. a replica or close to it updated WF in rosemont would have continued to draw fans to the games.

sure WF was/is a huge draw and main attraction on its own, but the cubs have a ton of fans who are true fans of the team and would go to any ballpark to watch them play.. look how well they draw on the road with fans in attendance..
