What's his deal this year?

Last year he had 20 goals and 19 assists in 80 games, roughly a 0.5 PPG pace.

This year's it's closer to a 0.33 pace with 15 points in 48 games and he's also a -9. Also feels like he's taking much, much dumber penalties at even worse times this season.

Can anyone tell me what he does that would be tough to replace?

It's because I bought his jersey for my girlfriend. I'm a jersey curse.

Everything he does would be tough to replace... but stop playing him at center unless he's centering Kane and he does better everytime. Even then, while so many people loved the Saad-Shaw-Kane line since it had good offensive numbers, I disliked it staying together because they constantly got stuck for long stretches in the D zone. It may of been one of the best offensive combos they could put together but it was easily the worst defensive one Q's tried for any consistency. But most of the year Shaw has been centering an generally less than effort giving sans recently Bickell and Carcillo. It's silly to expect points from that.

Nobody on the team nor notably as a prospect screen as well as he can nor take on a aggitator role.

But apart from the +/- his numbers this year are identical in goals, assists, and PIM from the lockout year. The team itself was winning so dynamically they were more effective then. He's just not in a role to get points this year, but after he was benched that one game he's been better.

Mike Richards is in the minors and available. Just saying?

I still fail to see what this is.

Fully agree that he should be a wing, not a center. That Saad-Shaw-Kane combo was awesome during the Kings series last year, but since that combo was assembled, Kane tore up the league with Richards and Versteeg while Saad has teamed up with Hossa and Toews to form one of the most dominant lines in the whole damn league. Not gonna sacrifice those two lines just to bring up Shaw's numbers. He has to find a way to thrive away from the top 6, because he's not a top 6 guy.

He's on the No. 1 power play unit. If that's not a role to get points, what is?

Shaw has a good value. He stirs shit up when he's on the ice. He goes to the net and is good behind the net. And he puts the puck on the goal. He's the kind of guy that coaches love because they come to the bench with their nose bloody and a smirk on their face.

Saad/Toews/Hossa dominant? Not recently. I actually wouldn't mind that line blown up for a game or two.

Cap hit is $5.75 million. No thanks.

I know that. But then again, Mike Richards can make the difference in a game and in a series.

I'd agree. Spread out that talent and help get the whole team going.

But when this team was rolling, that line was fucking unstoppable and it was a joy to watch.

I thought that's why the Hawks signed Bickell.

Hello?

Bicks?

No?

I don't disagree, but it seems like when Q starts up the Line-O-Matic '76, every line but that one gets pureed.

I think mixing that one up might send a wake-up call.

I'd be fine with seeing 19/88 getting some buddy time on the ice.

I think that's because, until the last few games, that line was still immune to the rest of the team's slump. Now it's caught the bug as well.

So, just for fun, what about:

20-19-88
10-86-81
29-91-65
28-16-42

Until Versteeg comes back, of course.
