The reality is he would look good on almost any team. The age of the power ss is over. But, I expect Castro to go off this year. If he carries over from the last month and a half, he will have his best season to date. He had complete control of the zone when he got injured. It was beautiful

He was not bad at all but he lacks the project-ability that Russell caries.

No it comes down to talent level. Castro is what he is right now. He lacks a strong BB% or SLG to be a top ended hitter. IMO he will fall to the wayside as talent starts to establish it self.

I like stats too...and if he "is what he is" as you say and has already hit his ceiling then im still okay with a guy that hits .280 with 12 - 15 homers and 75ish rbi every year. but like I said earlier, once you add Bryant to this lineup, and guys like soler, baez, etc....continue to figure it out around castro(and Rizzo) youll see castros numbers look even better too. especially in the rbi and runs scored areas. also, probably more homeruns due to seeing more fastballs from pitchers for fear of the guys hitting behind him

I agree Russell PROJECTS being the key word to be better than castro, mostly defensively. offensively, castro is right there with where Russell projects to hit more or less

.325 OBA and .410 SLG over his career. His OBA is not top of the order. (due to his BB%) SLG .410 again not middle of the order. So that leaves.... again as the talent starts to settle his impact will lessen.

No could the talent bust? yes. but I doubt that Bryant will bust. or Schwarber. Baez maybe. I don't like that he is still striking out in winterball at a high clip. If I had to predict a bust it would be him.

Came up at 20. Has had 4 different coaches in 5 years. Was not polished and had a horrendous year under sveum. This is where numbers don't beat the eye test. Also, he is a cornerstone. Theo has said this. If he brings a 3fwar every year like he usually does. He will be in the top echelon of ss.

Also, Russell isn't a defensive gem. I'm not sure where people get this. He has great range from time to time and they are still skeptics that he will outgrow ss. I love Russell but the hype may be more than what he really is or will become. I hope he becomes way more but I like to hold expectations until I see something that completely catches my eye. Just my two centa

I agree on Baez...I wouldn't mind seeing him be the guy packaged as part of a trade for a guy like Price, Zimmerman, Strasburg, etc...

I agree with this.

I put up some minor league info on these guys BB:SO ratio's. Guys like Soler and Bryant were around a 1.50-1.70 SO's per BB. Baez was near 4. He was as bad as Lake was and Lake busted.

Even in winter ball all the hype is he lost 15 lbs and is working on it but I'm seeing 60% strike outs vs that level of talent.

I'm very concerned.

Not gonna happen ever. The Sox have the most uninspiring ownership, leadership, ball field and team within a 10 hour drive of Illinois. As fans of a team that won a World Series over a decade ago and has fallen so badly enough to have the same record last year as the woeful Cubbies, Sox fans here seem to have a huge inferiority complex.

All Sox fans have an inferiority complex. It's because they, like Mets fans, know that no matter how good their team is, they'll always play second fiddle in their own media market.

Just look at how much exposure the Cubs got with their fest last weekend , including the hour long introduction special on comcast..

unless your a big sport fan, you wouldn't even know the sox are having one now

Soo, what's your point?

WGN gave the Cubs national coverage and a bigger fan base. The Cubs have done a miserable job of leveraging that popularity to become a successful organization.

Most Cubs fans couldn't care less about baseball. They enjoy the exclusivity of rooting for a perennial underdog. Thus the term "lovable loser." No one loves a loser, except Cubs fans.

I've also noticed that many of the "local" fans are from the outer suburbs, not the city, which explains the hatred towards the "dirty" White Sox. The ugliness exhibited by "local" Cubs fans towards anything to do with the Sox is palpable, and directly related to privilege, race, and perceived class.

Pot meet kettle:

For years Cub fans have said the same of Card fans...the theory is:

Since there isn't anything else but baseball in St. Louis, Card fans take out their inferiority to Chicago via baseball.

Is it true?.

point was.. that the poster was probably correct in his opinion that sox play 2nd fiddle to the local media...

ok.. I agree the tribune co. was more into making profits then putting a consistent winning product on the field

.

that's a typical response from a sox fan when the truth hurts....

yea were stuck with rooting for bulls, bears, and blackhawks living in Chicago their all perennial underdogs especially them hawks...

I didn't realize the sox 5 playoff appearances made them more of a winner then the cubs 6 appearances in the last 20 years but yea I guess winning that big one 10 yrs ago trumps it..

always find it funny when sox fans want to bring up the loveable loser argument.. your team are just as big as losers as cubs over the years, just no one loves them

I've also noticed that many of the "local" fans are from the outer suburbs, not the city, which explains the hatred towards the "dirty" White Sox.

probably because most fans who grew up in city , moved to suburbs over the years and with all the suburbs in the surrounding Chicago area its not surprising..

if you really think about it, its not a hatred its that most cubs fans just don't care about the sox period.. where sox fans have that "hatred" because they seem to always make a point to show up and have some kind of smart ass comment all thing cubs...

The ugliness exhibited by "local" Cubs fans towards anything to do with the Sox is palpable, and directly related to privilege, race, and perceived class.

yea that because only rich white people who live in high class suburbs are cubs fans :cubspalm:

Most? This makes no sense. Yeah. People just enjoy wasting their time thinking they are watching a game of cricket.

No.

False. This thought process went bye-bye over a decade ago.

If you hadn't posted anything before that 100% showed how ignorant you are of Cubsdom, this one is guaranteed to do so.

I don't live anywhere near St. Louis, so I wouldn't know. I don't hate the Cubs. A lot of my friends are Cub fans, and I'll be genuinely happy for them if & when the Cubs win a championship. I pull for my teams. I don't see the point in hating someone else's.

My love for the Cubs will never waiver whether they win the series or not. The Cubs have always and will always be my team. Has nothing to do with them being the underdog. It has everything to do with loyalty to a team that I have loved and watched since I was kid. I have missed every school day in my life to see Cubs opening day at wrigley. I dreamed of playing for the Cubs when I was young. I would probably tear up if they won the World Series in my life.

I already warned my better half that she needs to call an ambulance when the Cubs win the WS because I'll become an emotional train wreck and cry for two months straight.

for your first sentence.... you can set up a cricket game and wrigley will sell out. its all about the wrigley experience not the actual team. if you think they fill the park even when they are bad because its baseball, than your in total denial.

Let me know when there are only 35,000 Cubs fans. Your post might be relevant then.
