Not really. Look at the articles posted. Can you find me a national writer that thinks he is doing a good job?

He’s received almost universal praise for his recent work. Many of those articles have been posted on this site. You do have Rosenthal...

My last response to you in this thread was in regard to the last post of your's I read. Haven't been reading your posts since then.

In regards to how anyone could answer the question he keeps bringing up 14-34 so he must have a record in mind that would be acceptable.

The question was, is Ryan Pace overrated by Bears fans, if his record isn't relevant, well then what is? The questions wasn't "was there any better Gm candidates avaialbe when Ryan Pace was hired.

Wake up, cuz I think it's gonna happen sooner then you think. Bears fans know we've sucked for the last 4 years, you're not telling us anything we don't know. I mean heck, we even lost to the Lions. Of course, that was with a Canadian Football coach, and two injury riddled years as well. Yes, the Bears had more games missed due to injuries than any other team by far.

I'm not trying to make excuses either, but those are the facts. I think you're here enjoying this BS cuz you know it's coming to an end. Myself, I will think of you for a brief second while eating a Turkey drumstick and watching my Bears dismantle your Lions on Thanksgiving. Be sure to come back then big guy.

Oh please. Bears had a lot of injuries yes, take Kevin White(bust) and Cam Meredith of that list (we see how highly Pace valued him this FA), and you return to the norm. This isn't anymore an excuse for Pace, as it is an indictment. Many of these injuries you could see coming. I already have a ban bet with Spartan, are you man enough to make the same bet?

As with any GM you have to take the good with the bad along with the hits and misses.

Actually you don't. The bears wisely cut emery lose after a 23-25 record where he hired trestman despite drafting some good players like fuller, alshon, long, leno. The guy they replace him with goes 14-34 and hires a worse coach in fox (dont give me that bs about fox being forced on him) and gets and extension. The bears got a downgrade at gm and bears fans think they got an upgrade.

I like how you said recent. So you acknowledge that before his "recent work", he was an absolute failure and deserved all the criticism he got.

As a Lion's fan do you really want to dig into the past? Doesn't that set you for something like this...……before Trestman/Fox the Bears under Lovie Smith were 13-5 against the Lions. It's just cherry picking, and we could both do it.

Back to the question at hand, the way I see it Pace came in as the youngest GM in the league, made his share of blunders in the draft and free agency and seems to have learned from those mistakes. As with any GM you have to take the good with the bad along with the hits and misses.

I answered the question at hand, others wanted to drag the Lions into the discussion. I said, Pace stumbled out of the gate. Said he still could recover. So, essentially we are in agreement. Yes, historically the Lions are a joke of a franchise. No argument there. Recently, the Bears have taken that spot from the Lions. Recent history is all that matters to me, not what happened 35 years ago. Recent history isn't cherry picking, sorry.

(and yet we have another Bears Poster asking me a Lions question........)

NFL executives grade every team's offseason.(ESPN) Bears got a B- with the arrow pointing up. Lions got the worst grade D.
FA grades http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2765438-grading-every-nfl-teams-free-agency-performance#slide6 Bears = A.
USA today draft grades. https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...-2018-giants-patriots-cowboys-jets/562265002/ Bears = A.

Everyone likes what we've done this year other than outliers. Nagy is a question mark that has tempered some overall evaluations but I doubt anyone here is unhappy with that hire. You're talking out your ass on this one. It doesn't mean he got it right but his 2018 has been appreciated by many in the national media.

Of course not... How do you even come to these conclusions? Are there voices in your head?

Those are recent grades. I like what pace did recently as well but overall he is still bad. You have to factor everything in.

Why do you get butthurt when someone criticizes pace? this isn't bill belichick or howie roseman that is being criticized. The body of work isn't there. If the bears make the playoffs next year and you still see naysayers then you have every right to be mad but until then I think its fair to be a pace hater.

I'd actually agree with most of this, but the ESPN article you referred to is hot garbage. The two you actually linked I am ok with. The fact remains, this is Ryan Pace's first solid offseason, that doesn't excuse the priors.

OP is obviously not pleased with Pace so I was asking HIM who could have done better and a record he'd be happy about.

I've asked him more than once and he won't respond.

Ah yes, the 2008 0-16 Lions, perhaps the worst football team to ever play the game, with the worst Roster. No arguments there. Glad you brought it up though.....

Seeing how this thread is about Ryan Pace, and if Bears fans have him overated as a GM, how did the following three years unfold under a new Gm for the lions

2009............................. 2-14
2010............................. 6-10
2011............................ 10-6

How does that compare to Ryan "Snails" Pace rebuild?

LOL, all this because a few Bears fans are all butt-hurt because I made the comment Pace stumbled out of the blocks.......

My original post to this thread:

LMAO. A little sensitive are we? Now who was it that brought up the Lions? And if people don't like talking about them, why do they always bring them up? Xero?? Oh, and a little tidbit for you, The Lions, as terrible as they have been, have never finished last 4 years in a row. The Bears stand a good chance of making it 5, second only to Cleveland (7).

Compares the same to me. Zero playoff wins for both GMs. Oh right. You're a Lions fan. Playoff wins are never in sight.

Unlike you, I understand context and judge a situation on multiple factors. I look at where the franchise was when he started and have a realistic understanding of the task he faced.

Do grown men even use terms like butthurt?

The guy has no shame. Bottom line, the Lions have the 2nd longest championship drought of any major sports franchise in North America. However, he thinks a small window of success against the Bears actually means something. They haven't won a playoff game since 1992.

"Since their last title in 1957, the Lions have been looking in vain for the top spot. While outstanding players such as Joe Schmidt, Yale Lary, Lem Barney and Dick "Night Train" Lane earned election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the best the Lions were able to accomplish as a team for the next 26 seasons were wild-card berths in 1970 and 1982. The Lions finally ended their long championship drought by winning the NFC Central Division championship in 1983. The Lions under Coach Wayne Fontes and paced by Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders, the team's all-time rushing leader, also won divisional titles in 1991 and 1993. Detroit's first playoff victories since 1957 took the Lions all the way to the 1991 NFC championship game for the first time in franchise history."

Lord knows that I would never want to defend Beta Female, HOWEVER, I'm sure you can find national writers thinking the Browns have had great offseasons. Recency bias aside, Pace should be judged on his entire body of work.

Have you ever sat down and thought about why Pace wasn’t fired? If Fox really was his decision wouldn’t you think that Pace would’ve had a hotter seat, instead of getting an extension?

Maybe those above him made the decision to hire fox, and that is why he is getting a chance with the extension.
