Hells yeah! A FANTASTIC little interview of the awesome photographer Cindy "Fucking" Sherman by the historian Simon "Fucking" Schama! And if that scenario alone doesn't perk your interest I really don't know what would, lol.

Top notch interview. As usual, books knows the goods to post that make me happy. Cindy Sherman is such a fucking genius. She does her own thing and I love the way she explores character, identity and transformation and what it means to be a photographer, and an artist. I think she and Amy Sedaris are cut from the same cloth, but obviously use different tones to get their message across. They chose how they were going to present themselves to the world and have been able to change the way people view each of their art forms.

LOL! JINX! I just so happen to have that Sunday NYT Arts section with Cindy in blazing color splashed all over the front page in my bag---haven't had a chance to read it yet.

Also, here's ANOTHER Cindy Sherman mentionable confluence. I was randomly following a real estate link in the Wall Street Journal the other day and looking at a slideshow which when it ended listed some other recent slideshows so I decided to click on "Private Properties Listed" and lo n' behold was none other than Cindy "Fucking" Sherman's vacation Hamptons pad in Sag Harbor going for a cool $4 mil. The home itself is lovely but the decor too, too rigid, uncomfortable and Puritan rocking for my tastes---I need comfortable furniture damnit! lol

Oh man! Jerri Blank! "Strangers with Candy" was my show! Three seasons of Amy Sedaris brilliance right there---good times. So criminally underrated still.

I actually got off my lazy ass and did some "art" today.

took me about 3 hours from start to finish. The sketch only took about 10 minutes the coloring on the other hand. I ended up ditching some things that were in the sketch like the hair clip. Its a character from Mass Effect (or at least inspired by).

But here you go, the original sketch and then the final product:

I like your style TSD. Believe it or not that's actually a really good piece you got there. It has some great blends in it which gives it a great mood. Mood is the most important part of art for me. I react well to moods of colours and tones and textures than I do to actual image or form and exact representation. I like it. Good stuff you talented asshole.

I rarely do figure pieces but here is one I did a bit ago. I like more pop art style when it comes to figure painting.

The sad thing is, I really havent hardly done any art work at all in like the past 10 years. Like seriously maybe ive spent like 3-4 hours doing something per year every year over that time frame and now im like light years better than I was 10 years ago, and I can only imagine how good I would be if I had really focused on it over that period of time. Its weird that simple age and perception can actually make you better, but i could be so much better if that was compounded with practice.

I have a large oil on canvas landscape depicting southwest desert with yucca and saguaro cacti. Got it at an auction many years ago for like $15. It's signed lower left corner "FRANK" with the arm of the "R" sweeping under the signature. Anybody have any idea who that could be? Haven't been able to find anything through brief internet searches, it's pretty well done, decent frame, I'm interested to know whose work it is. Probably just some guy that likes doing landscapes that didn't amount ot much.

generally the "famous when their dead" thing applies unless they were a rather exceptional individuals or lived in an age of retards i.e. Basquat (TCD knows my hatred of Basquat).

My Mom and Dad gave me a framed print they bought at a church rummage sale ($10) because they didn't care for it. Looked the artist up (Bernard Cathelin) and he is actually a quite popular French painter/lithographer. This is the print I'm faily sure it's not a limited edition or anything, doubt it is worth much, but again it's nicely done and well framed.
