there has been knowledge about galaxies being other than spiral for a very long time.

On the other side of things,it could be argued the fact that not all galaxies are spiral-shaped may still not be common knowledge. I guess it may be now, but that's besides the point. It's a work regarding "scientific research", so a lot of it isn't supposed to be common knowledge.

Let me help. The article says asteroids are parts unused from the creation of the solar system and did not get pulled in to be planets. That's the stuff of fiction not science. Even those that have faith in stellar evolution do not believe asteroids are 4.5 billion years old. Comedic genius.

Why would they have to land on the asteroid? Some theories of mining asteroids use limitations of gravity in space to their advantage. Anyhow, if it's feasible and the benefit is worth the investment, then at some point landing on certain space objects will be a reality.
