The fact that they went out and signed Ray McDonald before his situation was settled, and the allegations against him being far worse than Bennett or Marshall, makes your argument invalid. They don't give two fucks about distractions or character. Quite frankly, if they trade Bennett, after trading Marshall, when the obvious problem on the field is Cutler, then I have no fucking clue what they value or what their plan is.

I think they're willing to take a chance on player like McDonald or someone else with an off-field issue, but it's possible that they view in-house team activities differently. If Fox is trying to change the locker room culture, then there may be certain behaviors they frown on and so they would be willing to trade Bennett. I don't know, of course. The rumors could all come to nothing, but if the coaching staff and Pace want to send a message about not showing up for voluntary workouts, work ethic, being here for the team, etc. and would rather get drafts picks to start bringing in youth, then it wouldn't surprise me.

Aaron Leming - For what it's worth, I have had multiple confirmations that Martellus Bennett is indeed on the trading block per @AdamSchefter #Bears

Wonder if he knows the asking price.

Everyone should be available for the right price. I'm not sure why this is news.

Well of course, but this seems like active shopping. When that happens and it leaks to the media the player is good as gone. All we need to know now is honey ham or smoked ham sammy...

Would hope for a 2nd for Marty. G-reg got us a 3rd and he had little value at the time. He didn't fit the scheme and we wanted to boot him.

I will say this not knowing for sure what this offense will look like this season.

If the Bears are going to be a power running/ball control type offensive team, they don't necessarily need a top receiving TE. It isn't a position you would want to tie up a bunch of money and create salary cap issues moving forward. I like Bennett and enjoy the type of player he is, but depending on the type of offense you run, he might be a luxury and not a need.

Saying that, I would be shocked if the Bears traded him, since there isn't another TE option on this team.

Having a TE that can play football is never a luxury, especially in a power run O. TE down the seam is the first read on most PA's

Speculation is most the Bears could get is a 5, because of Bennett's "personality. Honestly, surprised this has been rumored sooner. He's just as odd as Marshall, had issues last camp, and got into it with Long this offseason.

it wasnt rumored earlier but we did strike out on a couple TEs in FA which was hard to understand why they were targeted in the first place. Makes more sense now. And I would put his value in the 5-7 round range based on him wanting a new contract and his issues
