One possible reason for this deal could be that the Bears aren't enthused with their defensive tackle rotation and want to kick Walker inside more as a result. This gives them another good body to run at DE. Hopefully it doesn't get in way of Booker getting some serious run as the season goes on.

He can’t play against the run. I see him as a cheaper version of Yannick best case, which isn’t to bad. They definitely need more pass rushers.

I really wish they landed Judon, even for just one year it was worth it, he would have been a difference maker for this season.

I don't think our window is this season. It starts next season. Judon is great but then you have to pay an aging player coming off injury, and pay him big.

It would have been Mack all over again.

This worked out ok for us. Walker is the run specialist, Booker can now be a rookie, and this guy gets after the passer for cheap this year.

Seeing that many people here wanted the Bears to sign Yannick and his poor run support for 1 year of service, it seems to be a cheaper alternative (3 million + a 6th round pick) for 2 more sacks since Taylor entered the NFL.

Yannick :
2021: 10 sacks
2022: 9.5 sacks
2023: 4 sacks
He's bigger, stronger and faster than 'Yannick

I wonder if Yannick is still struggling to get back all the way. He’s had several workouts and still is off a roster.

We had the best statistical run defense last year with Ngakoue starting and Sweat for only half the year. I doubt the coaching staff is terribly worried about Taylor's ability there, plus he has legit NFL DE size. He's not costing much salary wise and we haven't had a 6th rounder stick on the roster in the last 10 years. On top of that, Taylor is still young without an injury history and plays a premium position.

My conclusion: it's a good gamble at the least. Best case is that he's a great fit here and looks like a really nice #2 starting end. Then you've got options with possibly having to play Walker more at the 3T if Dexter doesn't develop like you want.

Agree, although Taylor missed all of 2020 an injury. Seems like a one time thing, though.

Agree and even expect to see Dexter rushing more from the DE position.

Why couldn't we trade one of our coveted CBs that we have to cut because we have too much depth at the position?
Look at the last 8 years or so of 6th round picks the Bears had that @Nelly posted. The Bears aren’t gonna miss that pick. Try thinking before typing.
