I wonder if Poles really goes after Dalman now at center. Thuney/Jackson are big upgrades and sizable chunks of money as well. Are we certain that Poles doesn't think Bates can be the center after this stem cell treatment on his shoulder?
Oh lord no. I think Bates is more likely to get failed on his physical at this point

Supposedly his shoulder was doing much better after a stem cell treatment? Who knows.

Maybe this means Poles looks to bring back Coleman Shelton while looking to the draft as well. Shelton was terrible to start the year but settled in to be somewhat decent and now would look a lot better beside Jackson and Thuney. He's a little undersized but so is Dalman.

I wouldn't be opposed to that route. Re-signing Shelton and drafting Zabel to man the center spot would be pretty sweet. I would just wonder what Poles will do with the 10th overall pick, if he'd go for Membou or even Simmons to try to take the LT spot away from Jones. If he did that along with Zabel at center and Jackson/Thuney, I don't see how anyone couldn't say Poles addressed the line in a big, big way.

I'll also point out that when KC decided to franchise tag Smith, I said that they'd be better off keeping Smith and trading Thuney. #Clairvoyant

Yeah it's a good question. I would guess that one or both of those players get an extension to lower those caps hits this year.

Bears still need to swing for a DE in FA...

Tuney is a FA after this season and the pick the Bears gave up is a 26 pick not a 25 pick. Jackson's contract is only guaranteed for this season as well. So, its low risk, high reward for both guys.

This allows the Bears to kind of swing big in the draft:
  • They could still go LT early (Campbell, Banks, kid from Missouri) knowing that they now have an all Pro right next to him to help out. Also then allows the Bears to DE/DL with both of the 2nd round picks.
  • Bears could really swing big and move up to maybe take Mason Graham/Abdul Carter, if say either falls to #5 (Jacksonville would be a great trade partner as what they really need: interior linemen, WR, Corner) there is quite a bit of depth at #10 for them.
  • I still think a RB at 10 is absolutely stupid and a waste of a draft pick. If this team already had a playoff-built contender, then it would make sense but there are plenty of backs later in the draft they could pick up (Henderson, Mullings, kid from UCF, etc). Bears do NOT currently have the luxury of taking any luxury picks.

My gut tells me Tuney probably gets extended on like a 3-year deal (will make him 35 when the deal is over) so they can basically free up money come time for Caleb's possible extension. Jackson is the flyer. If he plays like he did with Detroit, Bears will lock him up, if he doesn't, then they aren't on the hook for anything after this season except that 6th round pick

I'd guess that CHI doesn't use a higher pick on iOL at this point. It's possible he tries to get an OT with one of the first three picks, but DE is in major play with pick 10 now

It wouldn't be an off-season without people cunting. This allows Poles to use those first 3 or 4 picks to find the BPA (which again, in this case I'm banking on it being Jeanty) and the later picks can be used on developmental picks for the offensive line.

I'm all for Jeanty

So now we have two left guards? And no center and no rg? Cool
Sign Becton and Dalman or take Jake Majors. I support this trade.

The talent.in this draft is it Defensive Tackles and Running Backs. I want Poles to go where the talent is.

Next years OT class looks very nice with names like Caleb Lomu out of Utah or Proctor out on 'Bama.

This year unless it's a second round OG I'm not blown away by the offensive line talent in this class like I am with the DTs

They could go C in the draft and trust the 2 vets next to him help his learning curve. Jared Wilson @ 72?

Anyone complaining about trading for arguably the best G in football is an idiot. Jackson has and will play RG. Thuney being 32 is a non issue. He's still elite and bears should be extending him
Thuney is a nice get, but Jacckson completely sucks and spare me the all pro bullshit, those years are long gone and that's referring to Jackson, not Thuney

I don't know. Poles seems to operate in bunches. So maybe it's not or never was realistic to expect him to try to replace Braxton Jones this year but he might really want to capitalize on the interior line with a starting talent in the draft.

You could take Mykel Williams at #10 and still possibly grab Zabel at #39 with the intention of letting him take the center spot, then still grab a quality DT at #41, then a running back at #72. I just hope he's not eyeing Jeanty at #10.

not sure why everyone suddenly has a boner for a RB in the 1st round now

bears still better be drafting a tackle or a pass rusher
