Okay, this just got better. A guy named Michel, the new manager at one of the local stores here just called me. Apparently an email was sent to the old manager's address last week. He just got it and is outraged that I have been sitting here for 3 weeks.

So, the deal now is I will get an Asus G10AJ computer tower. 16 gigs ram, I7 4790, 2 TB HD, 128 GB SSD, Blu Ray drive, and a GTX 980. This tower is normally $1650. I am getting it for $1250, plus the $100 off e gift card, so $1150.

My nephew is now going to get this 27" monitor with a significant upgrade to the tower, for about $100 more all taxes included.

If it goes this way, I will actually be happy. Right on Michel!

Oh man. Your nephew is going to be one happy hamburger. I am glad to hear this entire mess is at least working out well in your favor. Although there is no substitute for wasted time, that is one hell of an upgrade in graphics power. He will be DX12/Windows10 gaming ready going forward. Good shit. He will actually have a video card worthy of that monitor.

Best Buy just fucked up again. The G10AJ computer, which they have put on sale this week, is not in stock. Yesterday morning there were 16 available online. Last night 0. This morning it fluctuated between 10 and 13. This afternoon 0. Michel has used the excuse that because of the Future Shop closings/conglomeration that they have been having troubles updating stock on their web site. Why put a computer on sale when you have no stock?

The incompetence right from the bottom to the top at this company is truly remarkable. The computer and monitor are being returned.

Patience is not a virtue, it is idiotic.
I am a terrible uncle.
Beast Buy still sucks.

Depending on that power supply, looks like it can come with a 780 from from asus. Which would suggest it might fit a 980 or 980 ti

Only thing I would be worried about is thermal throttling. But still, thats a good cpu. And looks like you can add a ssd.

Update,

I went into the store here in Vancouver to speak with Michel in person. I had his name wrong, it is actually Vishal.

Anyway, decided I can't leave my nepheew hanging any longer. Going for the ROG 20, with an extra $75 off. Originally a $1400 tower, I am getting for $825, and the monitor for $750. Vishal also added another $50 gift certificate and gave me three year extended warranty at no extra charge. Tower will be at store in my nephew's city, and they can simply take the Acer tower in for a straight exchange.

I'll take it, and move on. The extended warranty and geek squad future support for free was a nice touch by Vishal as I had explained my concerns about the ROG 20 and potential overheating issues.

I am moving on.

I'll be happy if my nephew can turn this stuff on tomorrow and start using. $950 monitor and a $1400 tower for $1575, plus 3 year extended warranty and another $50 e-gift card.

Is patience a virtue? IDFK.

I doubt he will want to upgrade. The 760 isn't a terrible card, and there are two free so-dimm slots and a free 2.5 inch bay. The power supply is dual. One plug goes into the motherboard, the other plugs directly into the vid card. If a 900 series can fit, I think this supply would support it. 230 watts + 180 watts.

This will be his first nice computer. Has only had a laptop before, so he'll be happy. I wouldn't choose this for me, but he and his friends will probably enjoy the lighting on the case. And that monitor!

Thats the best gaming monitor you can get right now at least (unless you prefer widescreen). A 760 might chug a little running it, but it should last through a couple upgrade cycles.

Also, I know you dont wanna hear the shit right now, but I have been having a very good experience selling computer shit on ebay lately. I am in the process of a round of upgrades and am paying around 10-20% retail after deducting money I am making off selling my old shit. Its crazy, some shit on there goes for as much as more recent, new versions of the same shit.

I am thinking of selling my 2 780's and buying a 980 ti. Looks like I can do it for around $150.

Best part is, I have been using paypal credit so I don't even have an overhead.

Right on Bot. I remember the days I was a gamer. Only lasted a few years, but I was the same, constantly upgrading to the latest and greatest. It's fun, I know.

My nephew is actually playing some of my older games. Things like No One Lives Forever, Deus Ex. This computer will be fine for him, and great for his photography.

Update:

Computer has been chugging along fine for my nephew. Many e-mails, shared links, and a few phone calls, and he has modded it himself. Installed a GTX 980, cut out 2 holes and put in filters for airflow, and upgraded the ram to 16GB.

Running like a champ, he's considering SSD, and I'm worried I created a vidiot and my brother and sister-in-law may ban me from calling or visiting. Awesome uncle though.
