Yea and how many of Stan's picks or any other GM's picks won't make it? So the **** what?

How many picks did he have a hand in now have TWO Stanley Cups?

Well lets find out (2013):

Draft picks (For arguments sake, Dale was GM for the 04 draft, he may have not had the official title but he was in charge of GM duties) — Toews, Kane, Hjalmarsson, Bolland, Bickell, Kruger, (B. Smith, Pirri, Lalonde)

Trade — Patrick Sharp

FA's — None

Pre GM, but involved in hockey ops — Crawford, Keith, Seabrook

So 7 guys he was directly involved with bringing here that made a huge impact, including 3 that played this season (Smith, Pirri, Lalonde)... plus another 3 that he was involved with. 10 guys that directly contributed in the 2013 Cup, 13 total that were on the team.

Bowman:

Draft picks — Saad, Shaw

Trade — Stalberg, Leddy, Oduya, Frolik, Handzus (Hayes, Morin)

FA's — Hossa, Rozsival, Carcillo, Mayers, Brookbank, Bollig, Emery (Stanton, LeBlanc, Hutton)

Pre-GM, but involved in hockey ops — All previous players in the post above.

Here is the question I pose... could Dale have survived the cap crunch of 2010? With the way he threw money around, I doubt it.

Stan did an incredible job with that, and without that we don't win the Cup in 2013. All hail Stan?

If Stan is the number crunching asst GM, shouldn't they be working together? Hypothetically speaking.

Although I think that this cup is Stans, Hossa was a Tallon signing.

FA's for Tallon should also have Campbell and Huet :D

Yeah, you are right. Officially, Tallon was the GM when Hossa was signed... but that wasn't the case.

Way he threw money around? WTF Without the signing of Campbell we have no idea if others would have followed suit and considered Chicago a safe destination to explore. Before you bring up the H word its common knowledge DT wanted nothing to do with his signing. That was done thru the President of the club in order to have 2 "splash" signings to attract season tickets to be sold at a higher rate.

...and Campbell helped bring a Cup

Kind of like that "nice player/horrible contract" guy named Hossa (who's brought 2)

Yes. This is Stans vindication. He did it. He retooled the team and adapted them to where they could do it again. On the same page he was part of the cap mess no question. He was the money guy.

2 Cup in 4 years I don't care how they did it really. They did it. Both of them.

I've had conflicting statements on that. I've had some say Tallon was involved and others say it was purely a Scotty Bowman move. I tend to believe the latter but at this point, like above, I could care less.

2 Cups in 4 years says most of the moves they've both made, were good.

I wasn't directly referring to Campbell, it was a general statement.

Dale was not good with money. Whether it was RFA's or UFA's, the contracts always seemed to come out higher than expected. He had an eye for talent, couldn't use a calculator.

Neither was Stan. Stan was the Capologist. The Accountant.

I'd say since Stan has become GM, the contracts he has handed out have been more than reasonable. Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook all fairly priced, if not cheaply priced for franchise players. Crawford, Rozsival, Oduya, Hjalmarsson, cheaply priced but bring big value. Bickell was an absolute steal for the $$ in the last few years. Stalberg, Brookbank, Carcillo, Bollig cheap players with experience, if need be.

I disagree. At the time Tallon had to overpay to get players to stay or come to the team. I dont care what GM you had, they ALL would have ended up overpaying due to situation.

Also for the Campbell contract, his role is the most expensive role in the NHL. Offensive Dman.

UFA

Havlat = 6,000,000

Campbell = 7,142,875

Khabibulin = 6,750,000

Huet = 5,625,000

EL RFA's

Buff = $3,000,000

Sharp = $3,900,000

Seabrook = $3,500,000

I won't even bring up the RFA fiasco. Tallon was handing out money like candy, straight off their Entry Level contracts, they would be a lock for at least $3 mil.

We will see what Kruger receives (Bolland was 3.375 mil off his EL deal for virtually the same package) and Leddy gets (Barker handed $3,083,333 mil after his EL)

No, because we would still be stuck with Campbell and that contract. Nobody (except Dale himself) would trade for it.

Unfortunately you can count Stan in on those decisions as well. Bonus when the crunch came he learned from it.

And many knew Tallon would take Soup WI as they needed salary just to hit the Cap Floor. And Also WI the Hawks were not the only team that offered Campbell that money, there were three. Atlanta actually offering him more.

No Campbell, I'd be safe to say no Cup in 2010. So IMO it was worth it. And knowing Stan has done a great job in digging the mess HE and His boss did to win again 3 years later.... Icing on the cake.

Zero problem with either of them and BOTH built a Cup winning team for us.

Ironic how things play out.
