he funny thing is we had such a great season and STILL need a 2nd line center.

That Handzus pick up turned out to be huge for our center depth. While not a 2nd line center he worked well in the slot and gave us other options. I think that GM of the year award should be voted on after the playoffs because you then get truly see how the trades payed off. Shero looked like a genius when he made those trades, but all they did was **** up great chemistry and make a fast team slower. While Bowman got reamed for standing pat and only picking up Zeus, and that turned out to be huge.

I don't think it messed with their chemistry, it just didn't address their problems. Getting Douglas Murray doesn't address their problems.

Pens fans are convinced that bad or lack of coaching was the reason they failed so hard. That might be a part of it, but I do think that the make-up of that team also played a part. I think they believe their own hype and think everything is going to come to them without any work.

Ray Shero is why they fell so hard. If that Trophy had playoffs included NO WAY does he win it.

You CAN NOT add that type of talent to your roster 3 weeks before the playoffs start and find continuous chemistry.

Shero = Total fail.

Not to mention he did NOTHING to address the Blue Line Issues that ultimately was the teams demise. Murray? Really. Fail.

I just don't buy that "thinking it would be easy" thing. Every team knows it's not easy in the playoffs. They made it to Western Conference Finals and got beat by, what I think we can all agree on, the best team in that conference. Not that it makes it any easier to take if you're a player or coach, but I wouldn't go as far to say that there's shame in that or it was a massive failure on their part either.

You really want to go down the avenue of something like "strength of schedule"? The Penguins tried throughout their entire series with the Bruins what the Hawks tried briefly in their series with Bruins. One coaching staff learned and had their team play to their strengths, the other didn't learn.

Yep. And did their regular season record measurably improve after all those acquisitions?

Why is activity weighted more than inactivity when activity does not necessarily equal results?

I hope Shero chokes on that fucking trophy!

Well no, because after all he added he then needed to infuse Crosby back in the line up after being out more than a month himself.

Shero is a joke and the fact they are still praising him is quite comical.

Dear oh dear

There were 2 teams in the east that had a realistic shot at the cup - BOS and PITT. So yeah, strength if opponents mattered

PITT fucked their chemistry up big time by their additions. Anyone that knows anything about Iginla and Morrow will tell you that. RK tried explaining it...but was scoffed. It was as true as the day is long

PITT and their magic PP - that some think is the end all be all to a teams success - dried up. They coasted with winning streaks because the East isn't as difficult. Zero travel, no physicality...with 1 other cup contender

The West is playoff hockey and travel all year long. Any idiot knows that

So why wasn't their chemistry fucked up in the previous two series before Boston? The usual bad goaltending showed up, but that's no different than practically any other year for them in the playoffs. They just got beat by a better team that was built in the exact way they were not. I'm not disagreeing that those trades didn't address their problems, because they didn't. But they didn't lose because they didn't have chemistry because of adding Morrow or Iginla or thought the road to the Cup would come "easy".

So two more Dale Tallon draft picks fall by the wayside. Akim Aliu not qualified by Calgary, and Jack Skille not qualified by the guy that drafted him in Florida.

It's a thread about Dale Tallon? You can probably add Beach to that list too within the next year.
