Even the 2010 Cup Playoffs roster was built by all 4 of those GMs too though obviously Bowman's imprint was minimal or not depending on whether you concede that Hossa, Kopecky, and Madden were technically signed under Tallon. So including the 8 players still here there was:

BOYNTON - Traded for by Bowman

BROUWER - Drafted by Pulford

BURISH - Drafted by Smith

BYFUGLIEN - Drafted by Smith

CAMPBELL - FA signed by Tallon Cat

FRASER - Traded for by Pulford

HENDRY - FA signed by Tallon Cat

HUET - FA signed by Tallon Cat

HOSSA - FA signed by Tallon Cat (technically ?)

KOPECKY - FA signed by Tallon Cat (technically ?)

LADD - Traded for by Tallon Cat

MADDEN - FA signed by Tallon Cat (technically ?)

NIEMI - FA signed by Tallon Cat

SOPEL - FA signed by Tallon Cat

VERSTEEG - Traded for by Tallon Cat

Tallon Cat's GM record was especially great at trades and FA signings, not so much with drafting IMO (Kane and Toews being no-brainers natch).

I know and I have always believed that personally. BUT I figured I'd go with "technically" where the Hossa, Kopecky, and Madden FA signings were concerned. They were all signed on the opening day of FA on July 1, 2009 which was a mere two weeks (?) before Tallon Cat's firing/demotion was made public but since we don't know exactly when he was ousted internally I just went with the public record. By the time the Hawks Convention even rolled around the weekend of the 18th-20th Bowman was already in place and was the one who introduced Hossa, Kopecky, and Madden to the audience and unveiled their jerseys.

And I will also add that in terms of looking towards the future and the prospect pool that yes, it's all on Stan. As should be logically expected since the organization is now 4 years and almost 4 Drafts past Tallon Cat's tenure as GM and seeing as there's only so many contracts NHL organizations can have signed there's only 11 of his picks left in the pool.

In the system only. . .

Beach

Birch

Froese

Gilbert

Gleason

Lalonde

Lavin

Olsen

Phillips

Pirri

Smith

. . .remain of Tallon Drafts.

I personally only realistically expect Pirri, Smith and maybe Beach and maybe Olsen to have the upside to ever play in the NHL though not necessarily for Hawks in all cases, heh. Olsen's looking really dicey to me right now whereas two years ago I felt certain he would be a serviceable SAH D-man in the NHL for someone at least. He's young though and as we all know d-men take more time developmentally so there's still plenty of time for him to turn his shit around. I am still convinced that some NHL team out there could probably use Beach because of his size and his good hands one day though it's no sure thing and he could just as easily be a career AHLer.

Career AHLer? IMO, an NHL team would have to be in pretty dire straights injury-wise or cap constraints-wise to ice him in their 3rd pairing in light of all the PMD d-men that have been drafted League-wide in the 5 years since he was.

In that same breath Huet was signed by McDickhead; not Tallon. That's 100% fact. Tallon wanted nothing to do with Huet.

He had to sign a big ticket free agent to get the stigma of coming to Chicago to go away. He did that with Campbell.

Without the Campbell signing hard to say if others would have followed suit.

Ok, we now have 2 threads, one with Stan in the title, one with Dale in the title that are completely confusing the hell outta me...

I will accept my own stupidity and lack of readin comprehension if someone will explain the point of the two threads for me and my shortbus?

Drafted or not that was the Core Tallon worked with.

And also remember Tallon was Player Personel so also had input big time.

Again you missed the director of player personnel part. Pulford was just bitching the last few years, before they promoted Tallon. So much Peter finally got him removed from the constant complaining. Moving him out of the building by Rocky didn't do much because Pullford had long been removed from day to day decision.

I think Tallon had serious input long before he was named "GM". In fact, I know he did.

That said it's all moot.

Tallon --- Responsible for Cup #1

Stan------ Could be responsible for Cup #2 (with the core Tallon left, but not to cut Stan short he lost half his team due to the Cap)

Why is this thread going on again? Who fucking cares? Tallon is gone, lets give him credit for the first Stanley Cup in MOST of our lifetimes and MOVE the **** on!

I don't think it's trolling

For 2+ years people cried and whined about Stan/the front office and labeled them under achievers

Now...2 short years later, they have just had one of the best regular season in the NHL history, best in team history, came back from a 3-1 deficit, and have an incredible amount of talent in the organization. The last thing left is winning the cup.

Some were ready to jump ship to FLA - because this team/organization was such a "failure"..no one would ever come here...etc

He deserves a lot of credit for having a plan, sticking to it, and executing it to the top

I'll take credit for the Hawks success. Being an emotional fan who over-reacts to small shit and who is constantly flip flopping on things has to influence team success at some level. Im a master of that crap so my mere existence must make the team go.

Then start a new thread instead of digging up the two year old one. It was trolling.

And I don't disagree with you. Stan has made some very good moves and over come the Cap mess he too was responsible for as Assistant GM and being the $$ guy.

No. I didn't miss anything. I am well aware of Tallon's role before becoming GM. I also know there is no GM in the League who is directly responsible for scouting every single amateur and Pro player option all year long and arriving at decisions solely on his own though they certainly have very strong feelings and instincts about some of them which I am sure drive their decisions first and foremost. Still, they are entirely dependent on their scouting and development departments to keep them aware of talent so of course Dale had a lot of input both before he was GM and while he was GM. In the end as you well know though, it's the GMs whose reputations and legacies live and die via public perception about draft, trade, and signing choices not their scouts and Dept. heads---GMs get the glory for all their collective work when it succeeds and the flames when it all goes to hell with a player. It's always been this way with GMs and in every Pro sport.
