your boy called him a crappy center...LOL

well he should have been called out by everyday im buff than for him to just be general.

he isnt a shitty center at all, he just shouldnt be our 2nd line center, he should be on the wing.

Yeah, calling Sharp a pretend center and saying the center depth on the team is shitty is a ringing endorsement for Sharp in the middle.

He is a good 2nd line center and Bolland is a good 3rd line center. And Toews is a pretty decent top center.

edit: to expand on this...

Why should Sharp be on the wing? Because that's where he scores more goals, right?

Why is that? Why does he score more on the wing? Perhaps because when he's playing center, he's playing more of a 2 way game (as Centers are demanded to do). He's taking draws, he's backchecking, he's battling down low. In other words, he's busy being an effective center man. Figure that- a really good hockey player playing the center position the way it should be played. On the Hawks 2nd line. And he's scoring 25-30 goals.

Sounds like a legitimate 2nd line center to me. A 2nd line center, as Iago already pointed out, who was the 2nd line center when the Hawks won the cup.

I've been saying that for months. Sharp as a center makes sure he is responsibly for defense first. I don't mind at all centering the 2nd line mainly because he will be with Hossa. Those 2 have worked magic before and can do it again.

This puts us with 3 centers, that are very soild 2-way hockey players. I think thats a great situation to have. Plus you add on some of the 2 way help they can get by their wingers (Toews could be excluded)

Lets not forget he won 48% of his draws. As pointed out by many skeptical fans on this topic, he is in the lower tier as far as faceoff % with 500 + attempts. Just because the hawks won the stanley cup with him at center, doesnt mean that is the reason why, it is a small, very small variable that may or may not have contributed to the success in the stanley cup run. Could his wins be key? sure. Could his losses be not life threatening? sure. But to use the cup and him at center during that time as you backbone is borderline idiotic on your part buff.

Will he play more of a 2 way style? sure, again, not a significant change in style moving from the wing to center. It isnt like all of a sudden because he moves to center he is going to be drastically different in the two way play.

lol most people can make an argument for him winning the Conn Smythe Trophy that year. the line he centered was our most dangerous line, but no one thinks about him behind toews and keith.

sharp went 11/11
toews went 7/22

besides toews' stats, he was the better overall player in the finals.

That might have been me who made that loose correlation, but the point is not that Sharp at center made the Hawks champions. The subtle point being made is that the overall team is better with him at center. It also pegs Bollie as a number 3, which also makes the overall team better.

I'm not a big face-off percentage guy. I can live with a guy who is in the falls under 50% as long as he succeeds in responsibilities after a face-off loss. I still see NHL guys not neutralizing the opposing center in the defensive zone no matter the outcome of the draw. That's inexcusable.

While, sure, it matters which forward makes it back first to help the defense, it's a center's responsibility (one primary responsibility) to drop down and be the third defender to cover the third forward whom the two defensemen cannot cover. Wings have the points, which are generally the last two offensive players who enter the zone (thus allowing them to often times slouch back). By defined responsibility, Sharp's game does, in fact, drastically change when he changes position.

Exactly right - the only variation I ever heard was as to which one (a defenseman or centre) was responsible for going in behind the net.

Sharp was my pick though Toews with his incredible point streak and play was obviously far from a bad choice.

Actually, my real pick was someone else, but I'll hold that back at the risk of starting a riot here.

This is a little of a tangent but I never was a big draw percentage guy until a few years ago when it occurred to me that we give up a frightening number of goals immediately after losing a face-off. We still do. It's amazing. Lose the draw, one pass, back of the net.

Once that started happening to us routinely I started paying a lot more attention to the stats on draws.

Niemi?

Id like to see a breakdown of sharps faceoff% also (if its possible)...from watching last year, he was pretty solid when he was in the offensive and defensive zone....could alot of his losses be in the neutral zone after offsides?
