Brunette is 38, but he put up 61 points when he was 36. His strengths are playing well down low and a very accurate shot, so if his speed decreases with age who cares? I think its safe to say that playing on a line with 2 of the best playmakers in the league will improve his numbers.

Not to mention both of whom are strong enough on the puck to extend the play long enough for Brunette to get his "wheelchair" to the front of the net.

I'll also bring Hossa into this. If it wasn't for the Cup win, he hasn't done jack shit since he's been here. (production wise for his talent)

Under 60 points with solid players here is unacceptable.

Sorry, Brunette will be lucky to sniff 45 points. I'll eat crow if he does.

You better bite your tongue.

When I merely posted Hossa's numbers alongside Havlat's numbers over the past 2 seasons, people here went fuckin' bananas

Why would people go bananas over that? Hossa has underachieved here. He has also made some great plays.

People here think the minute they put on the Hawk uni, automatic magic.

While a 1st round pick for Brouw is great value, there's no guarantee that Danault turns out to be anything.

I think it was a great trade. Brouwer had his chance and he just wasn't doing preforming as well as the Hawks wanted. Denault will either be used in a trade or will be on the Hawks someday. I think he will be good.

Hmm...lucky to sniff 45...So would you make a bet using 32 points as the over/under for Brunette?

I'd be willing to take the over on that one if you're interested. :yep:

Hossa appears to have performed at the exact same clip as he had since 2007-08, I suppose you were expacting something different, Joe? Maybe a goal per game? Nah that wouldn't work, because if anyone were to score a goal per game -then they'd suck because they didn't get a hat trick ... and on and on.

I say appear, because apparently the not quite to the ppg average "just isn't good enough". :boohoo:

Personally, I would say that the Hawks got exactly what they have paid for.

____

Now while I would take up that bet, considering you can't get an analysis, let alone an objective analysis out of said proposed wagerer - I think, I will pass- as I get this sort of vibe like you sometimes hear about where a group of office co-workers go in on lotto, by some miracle, they win -and the guy holding the tickets mysteriously vanishes...

So, yeah whatever.... tell me more about what winger play is about someday when you get done making whatever all that was. :) no in fact make that a ROFLMAO.

Hossa's goals and assists have both fallen off and he hasn't put up the numbers I expected, but he plays both ways, he is hell to get off the puck, he fits hard in the corners, he rarely turns over the biscuit, and he hits. I'm pleased with him but I'd like to see the lamp lit a little more often.

Exactly. Hossa may be on the ice but not get any points, but he has contributed in some way to set up the goal. Hossa does alot of the little stuff right. He reminds me of Gretzky, where he said you just have to be in the right place.

I wouldn't compare him to Gretzky, but I get what you're saying. Hossa contributes in little ways. Without him the Hawks would be worse even though he doesn't get a ton of points.

Didn't compare them. Gretzky said his success came from being in the right spots and doing the little things. Thats what Hossa does for this team. He finds himself in the right spots, always back checks, his all around play, and vision is just good on the ice.

the hossa bashers are usually casual fans, and or new fans. when anyone bashes hossas play i know they are new to the game of hockey, i wont even argue with them because there really isnt a point.

Let's see what the ppg (not everyone needs this - but just in case: ppg = points per game) ratio is, using a calculation to develop a ppg ratio then applying it to 82 games played -so you get a pro-rated result.

2007-08 season (played 72 games total - 60 with Atl, and 12 with Pit). 29 goals, and 37 assists net between both teams = 66 points in 72 games.

2008-09 season (played 74 games with Detroit). 40 goals 31 assists -for 71 points in 74 games

2009-10 season (played 57 games) 24 goals and 27 assists -for 51 points in 57 games.

2010-11 season (played 65 games) 25 goals and 32 assists -for 57 points in 65 games.

Ok, what does this break down to?

07-08: 66/72*82 = 76 points in an 82 game season (= 0.91666666666666666666666666666667 ppg avg)
08-09: 71/74*82 = 78.68 points in an 82 game schedule (= 0.95945945945945945945945945945946 ppg avg)
09-10: 51/57*82 = 73.36 points in an 82 game schedule (= 0.89473684210526315789473684210526 ppg avg)
10-11: 57/65*82 = 71.9 points in an 82 game schedule (= 0.87692307692307692307692307692308 ppg avg)

Now I don't know what line Hossa played on in Detroit, Pittsburgh, or Atlanta, but he was not playing on the top line in Chicago, plus had signficant injuries in 09-10 & 10-11 that would impact the scoring. With fewer games, it is going to show up more when going games without scoring.

The point being, mathematically I don't think you can say that Hossa's scoring has dropped off sincehe scored 100 points with Atlanta in 2006-07 -for all I know he was on the ice all of the time with Kovalchuk that year. He had his biggest years with Atlanta -which I think says more about Atlanta's lack of depth during those seasons as much as it does about Hossa' play. Of course, YMMV.

____

My conclusion: I think you can make as big of a case for the demonstrably slight drop off being due to injuries as much as anything else.

That?!

I used to get paid to calculate things like benefit amounts (as well as record adjustments) by a prominent federal government agency in the US -also was paid to write notices about those same decisions - so that was nothing :D.

Now try calculating readjusted rates etc .. that is where the real fun is :tiptoe:
