I don't think Webb will be expensive so this should be low risk very high reward.

Don't start fitting Brandon Webb for a Cubs uniform. There was a report that the Cubs and Rangers have jumped ahead of the Nationals in the bidding for the right-hander, who has not pitched since one start in April 2009. The Cubs have checked Webb's medical records -- he's been sidelined with shoulder issues -- but it doesn't appear to be a good match. Webb may want to pitch in Chicago but he most likely would have to give the Cubs the type of discount Kerry Wood did (one year, $1.5 million plus incentives) to make it work.

You know what, why not take the chance and see what he can do for us? This may turn out to be a good move. Also, why not take a chance for Justin Duchscherer? I know there is plenty of reason to be skeptical, but when healthy no one can deny their talent and therefore this could turn out be a steal.

I still wouldn't call 4 million low risk for a guy who hasn't pitched in 2 years.

4 million in the chicago market is nothing on a 1 year deal. you gave carlos pena 10 million, 3-4 million plus incentives is great for him. and if he is healthy and is putting on sessions for teams and his velocity and arm slot has not changed, it is worth the risk.

IF. That's where the risk is. For someone who has not pitched in 2 years, it's taking quite the risk.

not at all when the possiblity of the bottom line breaking even on his signing due to the revenue he would bring in from novelty sales, the marketing dept would go balls to the wall and make money off of the 3 or 4 million.

the only thing holding me back from saying to do it, is it is a non contending year. there was no point in pena, no point in spending anything but the 1.5 million for wood to appease the meatball fans. the 1.5 million would grossly enlarge the bottom line.

I agree that this year, I don't think we will be much. However, with a little bit of luck, this team can contend.

At 1B, Pena just needs to regain his normal .230/.360/.500 form. Which I fully expect him to do. We need Ramirez to stay healthy. We need Quade to play Soto. If those things happen, we will be in a hunt. I think that the first one will happen for sure, who knows about Ramirez, but the one that scares me the most if Quade not playing Soto. The myth that Koyie Hill is a great defender is so stupid. He's average. So is Soto. Plus, Soto can hit kinda decent, in case no one noticed.

My point is that it is the NL Central. You're never that far away from contending unless you're the Pirates. In which case, you suck.

I would like to see the Cubs land Webb. He can be a solid pitcher when healthy. However, Garza has had a couple of outbursts. I don't know if we want to see him on the North Side.
