Sopel's contract as well...
Buff(3.0) + Sopel(2.33)- Reasoner(1.15)= 4.18 million cap savings

I just got off the phone with someone that Knows Morin from the USA program. Extremely high remarks.

This person is very surprised Dudley gave him up.

All Buff does is dominate in the playoffs. Yeah, why would we want to keep a guy like that around. Versteeg is a joke compared to Buff. Anyone who would rather have Versteeg over Buff is, well, I'm not gonna say what they are cause I don't want to get in trouble.
Go ahead Sonny, I really couldn't give two shits. Pay a guy 3 million dollars for roughly 20 games? Great logic, and I wouldn't really call him dominant in the playoffs. He just shows up and plays and because he's a big guy everyone loves him.
I must say that getting what seems to be a stud prospect in Morin, takes the cake in this deal.
yeah, trading away a guy who scores playoff goals by the busshel for a "stud" prospect. Yeah, that takes the cake alright....the urninal cake.

You are assuming Reasoner doesn't start the season in Rockford.

I don't mind this deal at all....2 picks....Reasoner can play 4th line center, plays the pk, 51% on faceoffs

I'm curious about this Jeremy Morin kid...

19yrs old....LW (which Hawks lack)

6' 1" 190lbs ... Last year in the OHL - 58gms - 47g - 36a - 83pts ...21pts in 20 plyoff gms as well....

Good start for Bowman, frankly I'm stunned at what Atlanta gave up but Dudley knows the guys hes getting so that must have made it more reasonable for him. But still a 1st and a 2nd and a damn good prospect, thats a steal considering all the "experts" were saying we wouldnt get anything.

On a side note Torchetti has got to be thrilled.

If Versteeg gets traded as well I'll consider getting over it, but if Steeger stays and Buff goes I'm gonna be furious. If that's the case its an awful move. If they both go then I'll accept that it was impossible to keep him.

buffs biggest problem is his inconsistency. Period. Where was he in the Nashville series? He wasn't.

Players are going to come and go. Fans will have to get used to it. Beach could pop right in Buff's role and if he's consistent, SCORE MORE GOALS, and play an all around better game. Skate Better, Puck Handle better.

Sonny take off the fan glasses and use some NHL reasoning.

They only cashed in 6 mil in Cap space. I'm sure Versteeg will be gone too. Give it time.

Also Morin is HIGHLY touted dude. You have to look at the whole picture without going off on a tangent. Buff showed up when BUFF wanted too. And I'm a huge Buff fan, sit with his best friend and know his GF pretty well.

It's a fucking business.

I liked Buff but this is the nature of the NHL. Plus, I live in Atlanta so now I have a few more reasons to go to more Thrashers games this year.

I'm sure once I recover from the shock of it all I'll say it's awesome trade.

I think Sharp showed up in the playoffs as well....22pts...+10

Versteeg will prob be the next to go.....(and hopefully take Huet with him)

Then all this doom and gloom will be done.

1 top prospect and 2 pick basically for Byfuglien - while dumping Sopel's 2.3mil - thumbs up Scooter.

That's a pretty safe assumption since he'd make the same money in Rockford.

When has he ever used that kind of logic?

The money would not count against the cap in Rockford.

Jeremy Morin, C -- Kitchener Rangers, OHL

Drafted in the 2nd Round, 45th overall in the 2009 Entry Draft

Morin slipped in the draft due to concerns over his short skating stride, stamina and hockey sense. Drafted out of the USNTP, Morin’s switch to the OHL has yielded an outburst of scoring. A pure goal scorer who displays great determination and finds open ice, Morin has sniped and eye-popping 47 goals in 58 regular-season games with Kitchener and 12 goals in 19 playoff games. He had 36 assists on the season. The Auburn Hills, NY native also played a key role on the gold-medal winning USA team at the World Junior Championships with two goals and five assists in seven games. He’ll likely need another year of junior to further work on his overall game.

Despite the short-term sting of losing Buff, the long-term upside is substantial. Shed salary to afford Hjalmarsson and even Antti , PLUS stock the farm with what sounds like an outstanding prospect in Morin. We'll get over it. A tough trade on the surface, but the or-gan-i-zation had to do it for today and the future.
