We'll never know but would'nt he have gotten more on the open market? I think so. jmho

And he is still ooohhhh so young. This being only his 6th NHL season. And frankly his career numbers to this point are pretty solid ones for a guy many would call a rounded blueliner. Does he dazzle on the offensive end? No but he does produce at a decent rate. Does he dazzle on the defensive end of the game? He certainly has many times. Seabs is versatile and hes a leader. He is a rare breed of NHL blueliner. I think his piers would agree to this.
To me this is a great day for the Hawks organization. Seabs didn't deserve to be excluded from fair value because guys like Huet are playing in Europe and Campbell has a heavier contract than deserved. I believe this is fair value for both sides. Anyone think Seabs and all his tangeables would have been easily replaceable? I certainly don't.
Ya'll worry to much.
Seabrook might have received slightly more in the open market, but nowhere near 7.5 million.
Only two defenseman make over 7M, and one is hopelessly overpaid.
For those of you who don't think Seabrook is an elite blueliner in this league I really don't know what you are smoking. Not only does he have a Stanley Cup ring on his finger (and frankly this team doesn't win the cup without him) he also seemed to have been thought highly enough to make a very prestigious Team Canada who won the Olympic gold. How many blueliners make the Canadian National team? Hmmmmmm seems to me Seabs is highly respected around the league, wouldn't you say so?
True but as the Olympics progressed Seabrooks ice time diminished substantially....!
Presently he is the only physical presence on the D , and personally I am glad he is around long term. There would be no bitching about Seab's contract if the team wasn't carrying Campbells huge overpayment.
Stan is staying to the blueprint of identifying the core players and signing them long term. We have to wait and see how the team progresses in the playoffs, and see what changes transpire next year. At some point they may need to shed Campbells contract, which will be next to impossible, or trade a core player ( d/t Cap constraints )if they want to be a Stanley Cup contender .

That's because the guy named Babcock was playing guys by the name on the back of the Sweater, instead of the skill on the ice. It almost cost him the Gold Medal as well.
Pronger was absolutely terrible but he played, because his name is Pronger.
Burrish and Eager were not enforcers. I think you need character guys like Burrish, but the day of the enforcer is long gone. We have one right now and he sure does contribute from the PRESS BOX alright....
