If its based on offense, Seabrook is this teams best "offensive" d-man at the moment in terms of production. If the arbitrators look at Keith's contract then he'll get a pay day.

but they will compare him to offense in Defensemen around the league, not just on the team.

Seabs is projected to hit 44 points this year, now obviously who knows where that number ends up but lets just say he hits 44 points for the sake of argument... I'm just going to find some other players in similar situations that have re-signed recently:

Jack Johnson - 7 years | $30,500,000 total | $4,357,143 Cap Hit

Re-signed on 1/09/2011, 36 points last year, 38 points already this year on pace for 51.

Trevor Daley - 6 years | $19,800,000 total | $3,300,000 Cap Hit

Re-signed on 12/29/2010, career high 25 points, 22 points so far and on pace for 29 this year.

Mark Giordano - 5 years | $20,100,000 total | $4,020,000 Cap Hit

Re-signed on 10/29/2010, 30 points last year, 28 this year on pace for 36.

Zdeno Chara - 7 years | $45,500,000 total | 6,916,667 Cap Hit

Re-signed on 10/09/2010, obviously we all know what he is capable of.

Marc Staal - 5 years | $19,875,000 total | $3,975,000 Cap Hit

Re-signed 9/15/2010, 27 points last year, 23 points this year, on pace for 30.

Up to you to interpret that whichever way you want, but this is as recent as it gets when it comes to RFA's re-signing with their club. Looking at this list, I can't see Seabrook getting less than $4.5M. He has a bigger resume than guys like Staal and Johnson, hes better than Daley and Giordano, and definitely isn't on Charas level... so probably compile all those contracts and get an average there, Seabs is probably that number, which is $4.5M, ironically lol.

Looking at those players he might get anywhere between $4.5M-$5M.

I completely agree with I think Seabrook should get/deserve the 5mil range (give/take 200K) and long term. He's earned it over the time he's been in CHI. Not just numbers/play on ice (points, physicality, leadership)...plays PP, PK, ES...etc.

I do think though, if his "camp" is wanting 6mil plus...it may be best to shop him. I doubt he/they are...but who knows unless you're sitting at the table with them.

Playing that side of things, what would be "good" or acceptable in moving him and the return? Some teams looking for D help...NYR? Could ATL want him?

I'd be happy if they landed Bogosian in a deal...say Bogosian and Bergfors? Could save some cap space to then try to get a center as well. If not Bergfors...maybe Bogosian and Thorburn (some 4th line grit?)

Could they get Dubinsky for him from the Rangers?

I like the way you think, there's the Hawks elusive 2nd line center.

Doubt Dubinsky is available, from the sounds of things NYR doesn't plan on moving their core.

Rumors floating around now about 5 years at 30 million. If so, the Hawks have learned NOTHING about cap management. I am a big Seabrook fan, but six million a year is too fucking much. You're looking at 20 million in cap space tied up in just FOUR defensemen. Christ.

Agreed. I love Seabs and he's worth that much, but the Hawks cannot afford that salary.

If this really happens, they need to either dump Campbell or Hammer.

It's been mentioned that the cap will go up 3-4M next year and the 4M in Kane/Toews bonuses come off the books. That makes it a bit more affordable...

Interesting how we are talking about these bigger contracts and the Wall Street Journal that just came out about how teams are dealing with these big contracts when the player is not needed or to shed for cap space. I posted it as a separate thread.

Heard this morning on ESPN 1000 that the deal was close to being done at 3 years 30 million. I am really glad ESPN is usually wrong.

And Tallon was accused of throwing money around....

Goodbye depth, or Hammer, or both.

Maybe we should wait and see before jumping the gun Eh?

Seabrook is worth every penny they give him. How he becomes the odd man out is a little fucked if you ask me. I'd rather lose Hammer and Keep Seabrook in a heart beat.

Not to mention they'll probably move Campbell in the off season.

Still a lot of salary left on that deal.

if ya ask me....thats alot of money to dish out for Seabs...I like him but 30 IMO is to much...But Im not Stan soo he must know what hes doing...tie up the core and figure out the rest at the end. Look at it this way how many teams out there have such a deep core like us, not many...I think he is trying to get this done for another run if not this year for sure next...I still think we need a big inforcer, like Burrish or Ben. Im very happy and also wondering if he pulled a Tallon by overpaying. If cap is going up 3mil and 4 mil is also coming off then great. But I disagree about losing Hammer in a Heartbeat. Im sorry I think he is solid and I never worry when he is on the ice. Lose Campbell yes but Hammer! GOD no!

Burrish and Eager were not enforcers. I think you need character guys like Burrish, but the day of the enforcer is long gone. We have one right now and he sure does contribute from the bench alright.

And I'm not sure which Hammer you've watched most of this year but, He's not been good. Softmore slump maybe, who knows. Putting Seabrook with him has helped TWICE this year.

As for Campbell he's been this teams most consistent D man all year. I'd keep him over Hammer ANY DAY of the week, unfortunately he makes 7 mil per season for the next 5 years.
