Ohlund gets 5.5 this year and next on his contract. That should say something.

You sure that isn't because Tampa Bay was desperate for any kind of known defenseman? Besides Hedstrom, Ohlund is the only one I know that plays D there.

Again if you think Nashville is going to let Weber go for less than 5 mil your crazy.

Seabrook is worth 5 at least, compared to OTHER contracts.

Yep. I would guess his agent is going to start at the Buff number and add 10%.

Was fun while it lasted Seabs... We'll miss you.

Not saying that where the number will end up, but this league puts a premium on top-pairing defensemen, and the Seabrook camp knows this.

Defensive D men never get big rewards going to arbitration. Arbitrators simply look at stats, and nothing else. If Seabrook goes to arbitration they will look at nothing except 4 goals, 27 Assists and -2 That's not guaranteed big money.

Do they really only look at the previous year in arbitration?

pretty much. Arbitrators are usually lawyers with little to no hockey knowledge, and have had to have stats explained to them in the past. They will look at his stats, and other defensemen with the same stats. Even if they look at his whole career, his career high in goals is nine. We all know how much Seabrook means to the Hawks, but Arbitrators don't. Case and Point, Mike Peca took Buffalo to Arbitration years and years ago, being an elite 2 way forward he expected a decent payout. He got dick all because to them 20 goal scorers were a dime a dozen.

I guess I really didn't think about it only being the last year. Makes you wonder why some guys go to arbitration sometimes. On the other hand there are the niemi's....

Offensive players go, or RFA's that had a really good contract year. It would be pointless for Defensive D men like Chris Phillips or Jason Smith to go to Arbitration.

Brian Campbell is the type of player that would get a reward.

Braydon Coburn isn't

If its based on offense, Seabrook is this teams best "offensive" d-man at the moment in terms of production. If the arbitrators look at Keith's contract then he'll get a pay day.

We are in Illinois, I believe they are working on it, but not quite legal yet, so they might have to bring in some sort of arbitrator to get it done.....
