ZING!!!!!!

He is correct except they have to PLAY one SC FINALS game, not just a playoff game--- Although I'm not sure Bickell played 41 games as a Hawk did he? Nor did he play any in the finals.

Prior to 1977 only players who had completed the Stanley Cup playoffs were eligible. Today, players appearing in 41 regular-season games or one Stanley Cup Final game for the championship team have their names engraved on the Cup. The NHL makes exceptions for players who do not meet the standard because of injury or other extenuating circumstances.
You forgot to add the fact that its also at the discretion of the team that won for other reasons. For example, George Parros played a small amount of games in 2007 (I believe he played 39) and didn't play a playoff game.... yet his name got on there. Ownership there requested that the NHL accept his name on there. There was a huge stink about it out west.

If there isn't such a rule as Agent states, then I guess it truly is at the discretion of the team.

Quite simply, Maybe Rocky forgot to add Bickell on?
God I just read the rest of the responses, please stop making up rules, there is no 41 game 1 cup game rule In case you decided not to read the link I posted in the first place which again states this in it, it's been listed in several other locations of late. It's the disgression of the team purely as long as they are associated with the team!
Currently, in order to have one's name inscribed on the Cup, a player must have played at least 40 games for the championship team during the regular season (provided the player remains with the team when they win the Cup) or at least played in one game of the Final. However, the NHL will also consider other reasons on a case-by-case basis.

You are incorrect. I posted the rule above if you'd care to read it. Prior to 1977 one had to play ALL THE GAMES IN THE FINAL.

That changed after that to the 41 game rule and or ONE game in the finals. I don't give a crap what someone said thats the rule. Now as biscuit pointed out there have been exceptions, IE NO CHECK and the Rangers.

But yes, that is the rule above.

Re: Interseting about Bickell not being on cup...

what ever floats your boat. the rules changed in 1977. If it was prior there would be NO question as the NHL player had to play EVERY finals game.

It's not that way now.
ding ding ding on the Bickell played more games than Boynton (though boynton didn't play in the reg season because his cap number was huge and hendry did thta job fine against most teams).

And I'm sick of the 41 games and or 1 cup game... in the article it says again THERE IS NO SUCH RULE, it's at the disgression of the team as long as it's someone within the organization is the only rule.
Boynton didn't play in the regular season? Sure about that?

Re: Interseting about Bickell not being on cup...

Keep in mind the team had several short term players during the regular season so they had to draw the line somewhere. Recall we had that scrawny kid from Anaheim for about 4 games - he scored a goal for us. What was his name - Eliot or something? Here today, gone tomorrow. If you put Bickell on for his short service with the team this season then isn't it unfair to the others who played with the team as well and aren't on there? I think so.

Except Bickell played in the PLAYOFFS....Big difference.

Nope, the bottom line is that Bickell got fucked to make room for Jay Blunk.

I hate to immediately blame John McDonough for it, but that just seems the easiest route.

Again as I posted... You have guys like Jay Blunk on there who did absolutely NOTHING to help win the Cup, and then guys like Bickell not engraved?

Sorry it just doesn't fly.

Read the article. It was NOT NHL rules that kept Bickell off the Cup as you imply above.

"As it turns out, it wasn't NHL rules that prevented Chicago Blackhawks forward Bryan Bickell's name from being etched into the Stanley Cup."
There are 7 lines of people who never played a game. Michael "fucking" Dumas? REally? Over a guy who played? It's ridiculous!! Jay Blunk? How did he contribute?

Re: Interseting about Bickell not being on cup...

My immediate reaction when reading the names on the cup was ....who the **** are all these idiots? Where the **** is Bickell's name?

Sorry, but a guy that played in the playoffs should be on the cup before half of those front office people, whose contribution probably consisted of a reach around for McDonough.

But he didn't play in the Final. Look, I understand most of the hate McDonough and Co. get, but it's just the rule. Do you honestly believe that there is some sort of conspiracy going where they didn't want Bickell's name on it or something? Because of.....what? Would it cost more to add another name? They just spent 6 million on rings, an extra engraving would hit them in the wallet too much? There's a personal vendetta against him? Or maybe....it's just the rule? Maybe?

Penguins in 09' had 27 management and staff names engraved on the Cup compared to 25 players, including the assistant to the assistant GM. So yeah, that's just the way it goes. They even have their "Nick Boynton" example. Mathieu Garon only played 4 games in net for them during the regular season, and played in just ONE game all playoffs. Guess when that one game happened? Yep, Stanley Cup Final. Name is on the Cup. Thems the rules folks.

so how will you justify Steve Smith being left off the Cup? To make room for Dr. Terry?

Re: Interseting about Bickell not being on cup...

I don't know how they go about choosing what front office staff gets their name on the Cup. There could very well be personal issues regarding those but I was talking specifically about the rules for the players names being on the Cup.

He's the only Scout left off the Cup, because after the rally he took a job with edmonton.

OK fine, like I said, I wasn't talking about what governs who of the front office gets their name engraved and if there are personal issues involved.

That's the worst part, he didn't get fucked to make room for anyone, there is room on it for him.
