Right now, Smith at his best is better than TMac at his best. That is my point. As far as money goes, why even bring that up? You all act as if Smith has a Deng contract or something. He is a free agent after the season...so who cares? You either sign him back or you don't. McGrady doesn't help you against Miami or Boston in my opinion...but JR does...

Again, the argument of cost-effectiveness is not important. Its a midseason acquisition of a player that is on the last year of his contract.

Are you sure J.R. doesn't hurt us against a team like Boston? Do you really see him as an asset in the offense or as a chucker who is going to cut into Rose and Deng's shots?

Who in Boston's 2nd unit is going to smoke T-Mac offensively? Marquis Daniels or Nate Robinson? Mike Miller or James Jones for Miami?

If those are the guys who Boston/Miami beats us with, I'll take it.

And Smith at his worst is worse than T-Mac at his worst...
Productivity-wise, Smith plays slightly more minutes, and has slightly better stats.
And, do clarify, I'm not worried about Smith's contract...I'm more concerned w/ how much we'd have to give up to acquire him in a trade, compared to what we'd have to give up for McGrady. I should've said that earlier...my bad.

Hugh and Pink...nowhere did I say T-Mac plays Defense...but T-Mac wouldn't cost nearly as much as Smith either, and God knows he wouldn't shoot us out of games...

I guess I'm just amazed that the dude's never been a winner in his life, was on 4 teams in his first 3 years...and no one tries to go out and defend his name or play.

And if you look at their numbers this season...Smith is avg about 4 more ppg, but other than that their numbers are pretty even.

idk...I just don't understand all the love for Smith. I don't love T-Mac either, but of the two, I'd def take T-Mac....cheaper option for similar production.

i dont have love for smith. i just hate the idea of getting mcgrady on this team.

yeah im gonna disagree with you on this one.

also i dont think smith is going to be all that expensive. Denver definately doesn't want korver, watson, nor brewer. If denver's demands are too high, get next year.

You have totally changed the subject.

Who said the Bulls were trying to get somebody for the 2nd unit? Starting shooting guard...that is what the Bulls are looking for! They will only play 8-9 deep in the playoffs anyway most likely so who cares about second units? A good starting shooting guard that can shoot from long range and defend his position is what the team wants.

Or don't get him at all...I just saw him as a quick fix who could play himself into a contract, best case scenario. You can't lose in that situation as far as I am concerned. You don't give up nearly as much as you would have to trying to get Mayo....

Why would they use him as the starter?

Rose
Brewer
Deng
Boozer
Noah

Watson (off-the-ball)
McGrady (primary ball-handler)
Korver
Gibson
Thomas/Asik

That looks like a better team than the one they have now with Bogans.

Brewer wont start unless he suddenly hits the 3 at 33.3%
Only reason Bogans is starting is because he can somewhat hit the 3 and can somewhat defend. If only we could fuse Brewer and Korver together...

lol...similar to my argument against Smith...

If we can't find a better SG than Smith through FA or the draft, I still don't want him...lol....

Honestly, I'm not just disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing...I was just oblivious that this many Bulls fans had interest in Smith...and also interested in finding out why...

They shouldn't be looking for a starting shooting guard if they cannot get someone like O.J. Mayo or Step[hen Curry for peanuts.

And if J.R. Smith is starting on this team... not good. I just hope you don't find out why.

If you have Rose, Brewer, and Deng on the floor, you still have two guys at the wings who can hit the three-point shot at 33+%...

My point is that Thibs want a SG that can hit the 3. Brewer isnt that type of guy to space the floor. Plus, Thibs likes Brewer's energy off the bench.

Sometimes in the NBA, you just need to improvise.

Bulls wouldn't have the cap space to offer him enough money. Only way they get him is through a trade. Maybe (long shot) they could get him in a 3 way deal that sends Melo to New York. I can't see any other way.

is the Gerald Henderson for James Johnson still available? Henderson is healthy and is really starting to play well off the bench for the Bobcats, he is a excellent defender, he would be a upgrade over Bogans that is for sure

I try to look around the NBA for YOUNG GUYS who just need more minutes, we don't really need a "BIG NAME" just another guy at SG that can generate some offense and at least be somewhat of a threat offensively when teams are collapsing on ROSE, nobody fears Bogans or Brewer offensively

Not a big Kevin Martin fan but his Shooting would be a GREAT FIT with the Bulls and you have Brewer off the bench to make up for his BAD DEFENSE

Josh McRoberts disagrees.
