To those that are much more knowledgeable than I, how many more players do we have to trade away now?

Sharp and Versteeg? Just one? Neither? More?

Don't know, we are waiting to see what deals Niemi and Hjalmarsson get. I do expect to see Versteeg traded based off the value he would command and based on who is in our system to replace him. Keep in mind one way or another Huet's salary will be off our cap, Stan Bowman already stated this.

EJ Hradek said on twitter that the hawks might try and unload reasoner right away and thats another 1.15 million off the books

That'd be interesting. I like the idea of Reasoner as our new 3rd line center, but again, any extra money off the cap would be worth it.

The Hawks save approximately 4.183 million against the cap in this deal. If they can dump Reasoner, they'd save another 1.15 million.

Based on 2010-2011 salaries and losing eager's, and eventually Ladd's 09-10 salaries since they are FA's plus reasoners salary, heres where we stand

Versteeg- 3.083
Huet- 5.625
Buff- 3.00
Sopel- 2.00
Ladd- 1.550
Reasoner- 1.15

With this trade today, and if we can dump versteeg, huet, and reasoner, we save approximately 16.408 mill

between kane, toews, hossa, sharp, bolland, kopecky, brouwer, campbell, seabs, duncs, we have 49.265 committed.

If new cap is 59.4, we have 10.135 to get 5 forwards, 3 defenseman, and 2 goalies

i like this trade, loved watchin buff in the playoffs but his regular season was medicore. It cleared much needed space and still kept a very strong core of players around.

if i was GM, i would

resign burish for .500
Hendry for 1.25
Hammer for 2.2
Niemi for 3 mill
thats 6.95 so we have 3.185 left

bring up lalonde, bickell, beach--around 2.5 mill?
so we have .685 left for 2 forwards, 1 defenseman, and 1 goalie

THIS POST IS CLEARLY HYPOTHETICAL AND JUST MY PERSONAL IDEAS

Ok, if they bury Huet in Rockford...I think this is enough. A lot of people, myself included, seem to forget that players salaries dont count twice against the cap. What I mean is that if a player is making 1 mill and you sign him to a new contract of 2 mill....the 1st mill goes away and only the 2 mill counts against the cap. So the Hawks have saved roughly 5 mill on this trade, you dump Huet thats another 5.5 mill, the Hammer get 800 grand, Ladd 1.5 and Niemi 800 grand. Not exact numbers but in the ballpark...add em up and you get about 13.6 mill...toss in another 2 mill because of the cap bump and you get around 15 or 16 mill of wiggle room under the cap. You should be able to sign Hammer, Ladd and Neimi and still have a decent amount of money left to fill in the holes. Hey, I love Buff...but this deal works for me if Bowman and Rocky eat the Huet money and play it out this way. Plus you get a handful of picks to help you re-stock.

This deal is definitely NOT :turrible:
