Dale can go **** himself. He caused this god damn mess!

Joe, here's a proposition for you. Would you over pay to win a Cup or play it close to the vest and just come close? I give Tallon credit for being ballsy and going for it this year. Ok, the goalie situation is a bad one...I would have never signed Bullin and NO WAY I sign Huet even for short dollars. But everything else he did worked out great for the Hawks. They're in a bind now but there was really no skirting this....all good teams run into this because good teams have good players and good players make good money. The idea behind a cap is to make it so the big money teams can't buy up all the talent...if succussful, you have parity. Judging by the standings, the NHL has succeeded on that front. Out of the 15 teams in the West only 2 had losing records...so when you got the chance, you better go for it with gusto. Dale did exactly that and Im glad he did.

I already said this is 50/50 props+blame for Dale.

I don't hate the guy. I just hate that we're in this cap mess because of him.

I would rather be in the situation we are in right now, Stanley Cup Champions with a few cap issues to sort out, than to be the next San Jose Sharks and be a solid team for many years that never wins a Cup.

Really the other than Campbell's and Huet's contracts Dale did everything perfect. He is a huge reason we are Champions and deserves a ton of credit. You could even make the case that without Campbell we could have been eliminated in the first round, we were down in the series and his return gave our back-end speed and solidified our defense.

Without Dale Tallon there is a chance we have Phil Kessel and James Van Riemsdyk instead of Toews and Kane.

You need to calm down and enjoy the Cup and just wait to see what we look like next year before you have a heart attack. I am not worried one bit and fully expect to be atop the Central and competing for another Cup next year.

Skipping this quote apparently?

Why is it only 50% props to Tallon? He brought in 99% of last season's roster.

Why are you blaming Tallon for the current Cap situation? Huet was coming off a phenomenal year when Tallon brought him in and with Khabibulin's age and expiring contract he knew we would need a starting goaltender. That was a miss but to make up for that he is the reason Niemi is in our system.

He did overpay for Brian Campbell but that was during a thin free agency in which a lot of contracts were overpaid for. Also like I said about Campbell before, Coach Q even has said he does not know the outcome of the Nashville series if Soupy did not return.

So this off season we have to clear and move cap space, but that is what comes with success. Also our situation is not nearly as bad as most people like to think, our core group will be there and we have role players ready to step in.

If this had to be done all over again I wouldn't want Dale Tallon to change a thing if it meant there was a chance we don't win the Cup.

:dunno:

He overpaid Versteeg (which from what i hear wasnt really his fault). Huet will not be an issue. Campbell makes a lot of money, yes, but hes still extremely valuable.

Really, Tallons contracts arent killing us right now. He built a team that won a Stanley Cup, with contracts that all fit under the cap for one glorious year. Yes everything isnt perfect now, but he did a lot for the franchise.

And don't forget that Campbell was the biggest fish in a rather small FA pond the year he was available. It took that much money to bring him town because of the lack of great FAs available.

I think Campbell is doing what we expected of him, but I don't know if he can ever live up the contract he signed. And that's not entirely his fault.

I dont blame tallon at all

he built this team and got them together for one magical year
look at the 90's Red Wings...did they ever keep the exact same team from one year to the next? no, but they kept the core...just like the hawks

You should. He ought to share both the fame and the blame.

his skill comes a dime a dozen. buff more valuable than steeg. plain and simple.

Steeg is a fast, talented stick handler with a good shot who forechecks and backchecks very well and hustles almost 100% of the time. His weaknesses are that he is small and tries to be too cute with his stickhandling. His wide skill set makes him a versatile forward who can add grit to a scoring line or add some scoring skill to the checking line.

Buff is a big strong powerforward with good speed and a huge slapshot. He cycles fairly well when he want to and scores big goals from in front of the net. His weaknesses are that he is pretty lazy on the forecheck/ backcheck which effectively delegates him to the top 6. He dissapears for many games at a time.

I would have been OK with either of them being traded, but i think Steeger's defense gives him the edge.

Somewhere in here we've gone through this already. This is complete fallacy.

100%? We went over it before...it was a number closer to 70%. Do a search, you can find it, I promise.

Like I said before, he deserves both fame and blame.
