Campoli files for arbitration

If Campoli or Stalberg get awards from an arbitrator and remain Blackhawks I will be stunned. I can't remeber any Blackhawk player gettting an arbitration award and remaining a Blackhawk. Perhaps with Stan calling the shots that will change, but I'm betting on Campoli and Stalberg playing elsewhere if it goes to the arbitrator. Frolik's only leverage is going to play in Europe and turning his back on the NHL until he's 25.

Even players suggesting Arbitration have been dealth, IE Wiz. It's a dirty word. We'll see. Calder was dealt just after, Wiz was dealt just before, Niemi was sent packing....

Just sayin...

It's business. No need to take it personal. Their agents saw ridiculous contracts given out, and advised them as such.

I'm not sure most organizations see it that way though. The previous history speaks for itself.

That is the main problem. Ask Niemi how his agent screwed him over last year. He never knew what could happen if the Hawks decided not to aceppt the arbiter's ruling. From his comments, it didn't appear that his agent discussed all the possibilities with him. I don't believe that he wanted to leave Hawks.

I think it's been established in the end that Niemi knew full well of what was going on and what the consequences could be taking it to arbitration. And now he will earn over $15m over the next four years. I don't think he regrets anything.

It worked out in the end for him though - he got his money he wanted.

Uptown baby!
At least Stan has a viable defense with all these bloated contracts on other teams. Chances are, with arbitration, IF it favors the Hawks, it will likely be around $2M for Campoli which is a bit much, but its close to what I expected for him. Same for Frolik. Stalberg... I don't even want to know what he's wanting, but wow, if that little clause with Olesz were to work, I'd have to say we're really lucky there...

Either way, I'm with you in thinking that we're going to see more people from Rockford this year.

We should all collectively as a fan nation cross our fingers on the morning of August 1st that the physical goes well and the docs say he's healthy---everything about the cap loophole hinges on that damn checkup!

Never thought our cap loophole would have to rely on a doctor, but yeesh...

Here's hoping he's very well by August 1st.

Too bad he won't get that team he wanted. He had his shot last year and blew it to the Canucks thanks to the Sharks D being as notorious as they are.

Now that they're in rebuilding mode it seems, he can enjoy all the money he wants....

According to Swedish sources an agreement with Stålberg is very close and the arbitration filing was just a failsafe if something went awry. The article also quoted Bowman from a Chicago Sun-Time quote where he is optimistic in signing both Campoli and Stålberg before any hearings (usual GM talk). It's also clear that he likes what Stålberg could bring.

Again, given that Skille is Stalberg's ugly twin, and makes 825k per; given the cap climate I would be stunned if he signs for anything over 1M, arbitration-granted or otherwise.

He doesn't seem to have a place in the team, and really, what has he done (not trying to bag on him, but the only promise he's shown is his speed). I know contracts are sometimes high-balled based on potential, but I would think if we're going to resign him, give him a sub 1M contract, 2-way the 1st year and have him work in Rockford to develop his game, then call him up during the year like the other rookies we want to give a shot to and see if he can't bring it next year when the 1-year vet contracts end.

It would be funny if this thing goes to the arbitrator. If I'm the Hawks and presenting my case, I would just keep showing the video of Campoli ending the Hawks season in game 7 with his terrible turnover.

LOLOL!! you guys are pissed at Campoli for filing for arbitration because he is asking for what he wants. Your telling me if you were in his shoes and you saw some of these players get handed out these ridicules contracts this offseason you wouldn't want to get a better contract. If your telling me that you would want to play for this team and accept any offer, then your full of shit. He is a player not a fan. there is a difference here, we are fans, we think like fans. They are players they think of $$$ first not the Hawks, indian head, not the legacy. Oh yeah, if your blaming him soley for that loss then you shouldn't watch hockey. Last time I checked this was a team game. Did he make us lose games 1,2,3??????

wouldn't be so sure of that. i think that statement is incredibly short sighted. i think most of the boys absolutly consider the franchise when making these long term deals before they go RFA/UFA.

I think i read in one of today's papers that Campoli filed for arb'n last summer also but then agreed on a contract before a hearing.

i like Stan taking a stand and trying to keep salary cap hits down. when you see the contracts being given to guys like Kopecky, Wiz, Brower, it makes you appreciate that we no longer overpay, since a big part of success is managing the salary cap (i.e. not overpaying players).

as for niemi he got screwed by his dumb-ass agent who told him he would get a lot more in arbitration than the Hawks were offering. That was 100% correct, only problem is not a single NHL team was going to pay Niemi what he was awarded by the arbitrator.

I understand what you are saying whiteevo, But here me out, if you were playing for a team and then at the end of the season you are an free agent, or what ever, and the current team you play for is not paying you for what you beleive you are worth, are you going to stick around and except an offer that you know they are low balling you or in some cases making room for another player that may be talented then you are?? I am saying we look at things differently because we don't change teams like some of these players do through out their careers so many of them don't know the history of the team or come to love a team like a fan. Those days are long gone since free agency took off. But I'm not saying all are like that but many are.

Do you think, If The Winnipeg jets had a team when Toews was drafted by us and it was coming to a contract year, he would want to play for the hawks or his own team...last I recalled he would have loved to play for his home town.

I'm not mad, but annoyed they want to double their salaries. That's assinine.

I asked JT about a month ago. HE has no intention of leaving.

You sure about that? He ended up getting MORE money from San Jose and a long term contract as well. In the end, it worked out well for him.

That could be the absolute worst argument people make - someone wanting to leave, because their hometown has a team.

Its been said every year, about every player...I mean, I still remember the JR to Boston talks...and in all the teams he played for, how many years did he spend in Boston?

Players want to win. He'll play in Winnepeg, that is a guarantee. As a visitor. Same with Kane in Buffalo.

My point to all this is when responding orignally to Kurfuffle was most players will go where the $$$. Not how many stanley cups the team has, not the great fans they have, not even the legacy. I am sorry, its the $$$$

Well for some it is. You do realize Kane, Toews, Seabrook, Keith, Hossa all could have gotten more money elsewhere, right?

Yes RK I know. But as far as Hossa, I don't think any other team would have payed him that much...I could be wrong but that was a big contract, but he is also my favorite Hawk so I am glad we paid it.
