Honestly I'd rather see you banned than Campoli signed.

After I just read that your a ticket broker I almost threw up all the liquor I drank tonight, fuckin straight ******. You went on in another thread how your a well off broker/business man yet you still go through the process of screwing fans over, wow, find the nearest 3rd rail.

We've lost a lot of traffic since the cup win and guys like "Fuffle" aren't helping the cause......not asking for something, just sayin.

After reading this, I just don't think I can eat breakfast this morning. I just can't believe we've had this kind of nuisance on our boards all this time...

Even if he's just a man making money for himself, I still can't defend what he does.

So if Campoli wins a large amount in arbitration and the Hawks decide to walk like they did last year with Niemi, who do they go after to fill that spot?

Likely. The Blackhawks as a rule don't like arbitration, and Campoli can kiss my ass if he thinks he's worth 3+ million.

Give the Hawks a full season of stellar play, and you'll get your payday.

Same goes for Frolik. Just because you played well with Bolland in the playoffs doesn't mean you're a star.

EVERYONE plays well with Bolland in the playoffs.

If they walk away from Campoli's contract, that's putting a lot of faith in Leddy's abilities. I imagine you've see a well balanced time sheet, rather than playing the top 4 loads, and the bottom 2 little.

While I think Campoli's value is somewhat more important on the backend for puck moving dman, the moves that Stan made say otherwise.

Agreed but don't you think the anti-arbitration view was more from the previous regime of the Old Man and Pully? In the past taking the old man to arbitration was seen as being "disloyal" and then you were dealt (i.e. Calder). I'm wondering if Stan and McD have that same view of disloyalty.

Maybe re-sign Hendry for some extra depth on a 2-way contract.

If Campoli walks it will not be a problem. No way he is worth 3 million/year. Same regarding Frolik and Stalberg.

What team have you been watching the last 4 years?

I don't know - how many have gone to arbitration the last 4 years other than Niemi? Niemi's case wasn't a matter of seeing him being 'disloyal' as much as we were capped out and couldn't afford to give him what he was awarded.

Wiz was traded before he had the chance. He just muttered the words "arbitration" and was shown the door. And unfortunately for Wiz he knew it and wished he hadn't gone there.

Most NHL Organization don't deal well with players who request arbitration. It's not just the Hawks.

Wiz again did it in Anaheim, he was signed before I think and then promptly traded to NYI.

I agree PJ and Stan does too by his earlier comments.

That 3rd pair is pretty scary. I'd much rather have some speed in Campoli back there.

I read an article recently with quotes about a GM who said that the process is brutal. They rip on the players terribly and it is tough on both sides. I think it was a GM who wasn't GM at the time. I think Shero was the one who ripped the player in the hearing. And he said that they really liked him and wanted him on the team, but that they had to do it. And the player was uncomfortable with it too.

I've followed it more in baseball than in hockey but arbitration is basically the same in each sport. Each side presents to the arbitor their side of the story. The player's reps will show all his stats, twisted in every direction to show their client in a favorable light. In baseball, if a starting pitcher has a bad won/loss record they will use stats to show he had poor run support when he was on the mound. In hockey, they could say their client was on a line with 2 rookies so his stats were down, etc. The GMs role is as you can imagine, the direct opposite, with his side having to paint the player in the most negative light - discrediting the stats presented or putting a twist on them favorable to the GMs side. For example, if I'm the GM I would definitely show the Campoli video of him ending the Hawks season in Game 7 with his ill-timed turnover. The problem as you can imagine is that coming out of arbitration the player feels his organization turned on him, does not respect him or appreciate his efforts and achievements. The GM feels it hurts his relationship with that player. That's why GMs don't like these hearings. I recall Jack McDowell going to arbitration against the White Sox in the mid 90s. He lost and was really really upset about it. To this day the Sox say that it was necessary to present their case the way they did but that it also had the impact of ruining their relationship with McDowell.

As I said earlier in this thread, the Hawks should accept what the arbitrator rules if it goes that far. Campoli is the best replacement for Campbell out there and it would only be for a year anyway.

Yikes, I like O'Donnell but he's a 6/7 guy that sees the press box occasionally, don't want him as a regular in the lineup. If not Campoli, we need another dman not currently on the roster (and not named Hendry).

Don't most arbitration awards end up being a happy median between the teams low-ball offer and the players initial request?

My guess is that if Campoli got 1.4 mil last year, his asking price is double that 2.8 or there about. Stan is offering 2 mil or slightly more than that.

My prediction
<
, I know this is the moment everyone has been waiting for.

The arbitrtion amount will be between 2.35 and 2.5.

Over the last 7 yrs, OD has missed 11gms and is +48 over that span

He's been a 'plus' player in each of the last 14 years.

His TOI the last 5 seasons...

10-11 - 15:34/1:34SH

09-10 - 18:44/3:01SH

08-09 - 20:29/3:57SH

07-08 - 17:14/3:42SH

06-07 - 19:55/3:39SH

He won't be in the press box. He'll be a very good #6 Dman for this team. I don't see him and Montador as a pair, though. More depends on if Campoli signs.

Keith - Seabrook

Montador - Hjarlmarsson

ODonnell - Leddy/Campoli

O'Donnell will be a good influence on Leddy and allow he or Campoli to take chances. He'll also help eat PK minutes for either Keith or Seabrook. But...for the PK...it'll probably be Montador/Hjarllmarsson on the first unit. Seabrook/ODonnell on the second..then come back with Leddy/Keith on the ensuing 5 on 5.

Having OD/Montador on the PK...will help the PP - so Keith/Seabrook don't have to play every situation.

He won't be in the press box.

They didn't trade Campbell so that Campoli and Leddy can kick off the revolving door in the press box.

Before Turco came to the Hawks, he averaged 64 games per year in the last 4 years and averaged a .908 save percentage... Man what were the Hawks thinking only playing him 29 games last year when obviously they should have started him near his average?

Who knows, could be Montador as the one who sits (look at how well Keith Ballard worked for Vancouver). But as of now I'd put my money on O'Donnell sitting, saying that "he won't be in the press box" is silly at this point in the year, and if we re-sign Campoli the possibility grows tremendously.

That's where hockey has a better arbitration system than MLB. In baseball, each side presents their salary figure - the arbitrator can only pick one of the two - nothing in between. So if the player is asking $7M per and the club is offering $2M per, the final award will either be $2M or $7M and is binding on both parties - there is no walking away.

The NHL is better in that the arbitrator can rule somewhere in the middle so if a guy is asking $4M and the club is offering $2M he can award $3M. But, here's where the NHL is the best. The club gets the option of walking away as we saw with Niemi last year. So it's a nice thing for the clubs to have knowing that if you lose your pants in arbitration you can just say no and let the player go.

Also, in NHL arbitration the player is at a disadvantage in one area - that being that the salary and performance of a "comparable" player who signed a contract as an unrestricted free agent is not admissible.

There hasn't been a player with the Hawks that either threatened or actually went to arbitration that actually stayed with the hawks. It will be interesting to see how it works.

Last three.

Calder was given an award, they promptly traded him to the Flyers.

Wiz just happened to mention it in an interview, they traded him to the Ducks.

Niemi got his they walked away.

Is this situation different? Not sure. We'll see.
