Is he as legit as Matt Barkley was?
Matt Barkley had unfortunate separated shoulder injury in college. Never was the same. He would've been a 1st round pick if not for that injury.

Don't fall into the same trap of pitting Fields and Bagent against each other, Mr. PiB. It seems like you're skirting close by minimizing Bagent's contributions. He did win 2 games. So I choose to give him credit for what he accomplished and be happy for him, and for the Bears, who might have found a second- or third-string backup to tinker with.

I do agree with the sentiment, though; anyone who thinks Bagent can start consistently in the NFL is probably still a bit giddy about the nice story The Kid turned into. Bagent's last two starts especially exposed his shortcomings. Knowing what I've come to know about Bagent's mindset, he'll use what he learned in those starts to try to mitigate his shortcomings. And someday, he may play the hero coming in towards the end of the season and winning a few games, maybe even a playoff game. Nothing wrong with rooting for that. But he's probably not a starter, fellas . . .
Im not attacking Bagent, he did what he was supposed to do, I’m attacking those who think he is more than what he is; a backup QB. Is it possible he improves? Absolutely but his biggest obstacle is more physical than anything else.

Could be a starter at some point is unrealistic as well and of course anyone can have an opinion but as he stated his I’m stating mine that his is stupid as hell. Again the main people who mention Fields when Bagent was starting are those wanting to move on from him. Anyone who was realistic saw the only thing Bagent did well was take less sacks (which Fields is doing now too)
Bagent's arm strength is the biggest thing holding him back IMO. So the question is valid.

People that want to move on from Justin Fields are not saying Bagent should be the starter. If you know of any posts saying this, let me know. What they were doing is saying that Bagent was a UDFA from D2 starting and the net impact he had on the Bears was not much worse than Fields. And that was the reason to move and draft a new guy if a UDFA who is not very good can play about as well (for different reasons) as Justin has.

Even if you disagree with these people's opinions, why do you care so much? Why does it offend you? You and a very loud handful of people here seem to be threatened by people's opinions and it is odd.

So much damn name calling here and it's just immature.

Did you really say that, didshereallysaythat? Spot on, fella. There seems to be a very vocal minority of underdeveloped social beings here that add an angry, nasty overtone to most of the threads on the board. Some of these guys gotta be in their 50s by now. Very strange behavior . . .

I will say this. I have been on some boards that you would not believe the things people say. Way more vulgar than here. But it's just people are really big fans of Fields and are unwilling to accept that he might not be the guy. So they do what they do here.

You assholes can't answer a simple question without acting like children. It's pathetic and expected. None of you act like this IRL.
Well yes this forum is a bunch of assholes, but in this case you are correct that no one is giving you a straight answer because it's a dumbass question.

If that's the starting point for his arm, then maybe over a couple of seasons of off-season workouts dedicated to strengthening his arm, he can to a point where he can deliver NFL caliber passes on the short and intermediate game.

But it's never going to become something where he suddenly has an arm like Jay Cutler or Jeff George just from working out. Some of that is just genetics and he simply doesn't have the right physical makeup to be able to become anything more than a decent backup quarterback.

It sucks for him and his dreams but coming from where he came from, being a competent backup in the NFL is a hell of an accomplishment. Let it be that accomplishment rather than trying to make him something he's not.

Bearly gave a good response. You didn't try to bait or provoke people by saying anything about him starting or being better than what we currently have. Truth is though that the people that still really like Fields are extremely threatened by literally any QB that is brought up.
Thanks. I've got a soft spot for a pocket guy with some vision but currently, Bagent is not that threatening.

Bagent also doesn’t diagnose a defense like y’all swear he does. Are you saying out of his nine turnovers, they were all due to his poor arm strength? That’s easily debatable if you are. He was easily worst than fields as the offense rarely scored.

And what do you mean why do I care so much? Am I not allowed to bring up my opinion here on him too? He doesn’t offend me but it’s laughable to think he’ll be anything other than a backup. If others saying their opinion bothers you I suggest ignoring them and then you can salivate over Bagent throwing the ball for 5 yards at a time with the others who thought he should start over Fields( and yes, there were posters, take the time to search for them)
