The only reason Ovechkin was suspended for 2 games was because he hit Campbell from behind resulting in a boarding penalty... Carcillo did NOT hit Gilbert from behind, in the numbers.

It should have been 2 for interference and that's that.

5 min major for boarding is the correct call because the player was violently thrown into the boards. Look up the rules, it was textbook.

“I’m not going to argue the call [on Carcillo],” Quenneville said. “He beat him to the counter-hit. It wasn’t intent. Both guys went for the same type of a play, and he beat him [and] had better position on the guy.

Exactly Q... just an unfortunate play.

And give me a break "thrown violently into the boards" is as grey area as "distinct kicking motion"... they should start calling every hit in the corner a 5 minute major then.

Good point though...

Engelland: Violent head hit into the boards while leaving his feet on a player who was already checked RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE REF = No call.

Carcillo.... a push into the boards which should warrant a 2 minute penalty = 5 and a game...

Joke league.

No violently thrown into the boards is pretty damn easy to figure it out, it was a boarding.

Not going to win this argument Grimson. You're wrong, FYI. Textbook boarding major. It was fucking idiotic, and it appears karma caught up with him anyway. I doubt we see him anytime soon, regardless of suspension.

it was an easy call to make. There's a big difference between checking someone into the boards as opposed to launching an off balance player into them.

Why do you keep bringing up that hit like it means something? It has no relevance in this, they missed that call. It was a horrible missed call. So because they missed that call, they can't ever call anything that was less than that? What do you want?

That was a disgusting push. It was a pathetic display of gamesmanship. It was exactly what most folks were afraid of when news came down the Hawks signed him. There is no room for that on the Blackhawks or in the NHL, AHL, ECHL, CHL, KHL, you name it. Dirty, I believe so, though I will let anyone argue that, but dangerous, reckless, and unneeded in the sport.

I recall when Ovie did pretty much the same thing to Soupy, folks were calling for his head, and were pissed that he got only 3 games. I am glad to see that same outrage exists even for our own player.

It was dumb and irresponsible. It wasn't a hockey play gone bad, it was Carcillo being Carcillo

And to be clear I am not arguing that it wasn't pure dumbassery on Carcillo... it was dangerous no matter how much I like the guy. I just don't think it was as bad as everyone else... still a penalty though.

I'm waiting to see someone defend the cross check....

It was bad, and completely unessassary. And cost them the momentum, the lead, and the game.

There is zero defense for that. None.

Then why isn't it a 5 min major in your books? It was dangerous and a textbook definition of boarding. That type of event has no place in hockey. It only serves to injure. I wanted Ovie's head on a stake after doing it to Campbell, hell he's reaction afterwards (and the announcers kowtowing to him) I think pissed me off more. It is a respect thing, if you respect your fellow hockey players you don't make that hit/shove, whatever.

If not boarding, give him 5 and a game for crosschecking. Debate settled.
