Something to point out:

The overwhelming 'hawks fan response was tht it was a cheap play that doesn't belong in the league. The fan's overall reaction is that he (a) deserved the major, (
<
desrved the Game Misconduct, and (c) will deserve a good suspension. Moreover (d) he got an instant karmic-retribution.

I think it does say something about our fan base en masse. I know other fan bases in a similar incident would be saying overwhelmingly a similar player with a similar rep shouldn't be suspended at all.

That might be his last game in a Hawks sweater depending on his injury.

And I'm not embarassed as a Hawk fan. Shit like that, with players not thinking properly, happen all the time.

Hossa would have been suspended during the Cup playoffs had he done that hit now. Where would the Hawks chances been to win the Cup without Hossa?

Little overboard there Espo, other than impacting the loss. Which I might add I'm not 100% sure he caused it. They did tie the game 2-2 and still let the oilers walk all over them after.

My buddy and I were having that debate a week while watching that game on his box set.

Great point lord.

I wonder if that response would be the same though if it were someone like toews sharp kane hossa seabs or keith. My guess would be the reaction we see would be slighty different. I think we hawk fans are also reacting to the reputation of carcillo here. Which is fine but it can be dangerous also. If it were a guy like toews i do think we would all still admit the play was wrong and deserving of a suspension but there would be much more talk of accidentals and probably one or two of us would desperatly try to find ways to make the play seem clean.

Carcillo fucked up. I would guess he knows it himself. He he doesnt then there lies the real issue. I still like a lot of carcillos game when he plays it. But i was thinking about it last night..i like mayers more. Look to players like mayers as the roll players who play smart yet aggressive. Thats how carcillo should be focussed.

That is 100% warranted though, Carcillo has a history while JT has a clean record and has earned the respect of the fans, media and league as well as the benefit of the doubt if that situation ever came around for him.

Bottom line, he put too much mustard into that hit.

Agreed for the most part. I think that if it was indeed a star player a higher proportion of fans would be screaming had for "no suspension" as caps fans were for Ovenchicken's hit on Campbell. I do think though that a good portion of our fans does hold our team to a bit higher of a standard since we did win the cup without really gooning it up, though, so a play like that from a star would garner a significant "What the HELL were you thinking?!?!?!" mentality. Though, a portion of new and bandwagon fans would think it's unfair and how dare they suspend a star player of ours.

And I agree with Mayers. So far he and Carcillo have been the two guys I've wanted to resign after this season since they play(ed) their roles well. Now, it's edging more towards just Mayers because he's more disciplined, and Carcillo's knee may never be the same.

I would be fine if Carbomb never wears the Indianhead anymore.

I would be fine either way. I like Carbomb but at the same time I don't consider him as a vital component of the team. Similar with Adam Burish.

Totally hear you there...I am glad to see that most of us don't defend this when we do it to someone else, but it is still embarrassing.

When someone runs our guy in the future we will be grousing about it, trying to figure out how to live without a key player we have to expect fans of some other team will say "Ah shut your pie-hole, you guys harbor that freaking Caracillo, don't ya?"

Well by the sounds of things he just might not. Which now begs the question. Do the hawks need to start thinking a trade to get a new lwer. We dont have enough now and im not sure if the answer is on the farm.

Why not? Smith and Morin play LW don't they?

I'm not convinced Morin is ready, Smith didn't really show much in his last call-up either... also Hayes is a winger as well, with a full line-up he could stick.

I think most of us would agree. That hit in itself changed nothing on my view of Carcillo. He made a stupid play. Players do them all the time. He's not make or break for the Hawks, but if healed, and done with suspension before seasons out, I could care less if he plays or not.

That hit will not sway my mind either way.

I'm going to go a little out of the box here and say that with his injury, if he really is done for the year, that shanny will take this opportunity to make an example of him and go 10-15, but some how he'll magically serve it while injured or something silly like that.

I think they start the search for a legitmate Power Forward that will help them in the playoffs. Infact I'm almost sure that search is already in process and that Morin, Smith, now Hayes were called up so that scouts could take a look at this level.

Any deal for a proven vet at the TDL is going to take a serious prospect in return and probably draft pick/picks. No doubt the Hawks have been working on this for awhile already. There's already been on potential deal fall through.

That'll be an interesting test for Shanahan. This will be his first postseason with him and with even what I believe to be his half assed judgments on lengths of suspensions, it would still be potentially the majority of any series for a player if they pulled some bullshit hit or dirty play. Like if Ovechkin pulls another one of his dumb knee to knee moves (which I will never, never understand why a player would do that, just as much risk of injury to yourself) or dangerous hits. We'll see.

I'm waiting to see someone defend the cross check....

Can't defend any player that initiates a hit from the goal line and does not ride the guy into the boards with a bear hug.....**** it, starting a hit from the goal line with intents to shove into the boards should get a 5 n 10, and a suspension. Nothing but dangerous and disrespectful.

Sometimes I find the knee to knee to be the worst play in hockey (almost as bad as head shots). I too wonder why no more is ever made of that although it does seem to have gone down a tad bit year by year. Too me a knee on knee is worse than boarding a lot of times.

Agree shanaban is going to have a difficult job in the playoffs. Different game..different emotions...different expectations. Should be interesting.

Just to add more to the boarding discussion and incidents like we saw last night. Are we a year away from no touch icing? I wouldn't be surprised. I think it's going to be the natural next step. Not that I want it..I just think it's going to happen within the next 2 years.

I like Carcillo, he just couldn't keep himself in games long enough to do much. If he's done for the season, I wouldn't mind seeing him back next year.

I'm not really worried about our offense right now as much as I'm nervous about our shitty defense. Hawks IMO need a guy who can play physical and also make a decent first pass. O'Donnell is garbage and Q needs to stop playing him. Lepisto doesn't look terrible on the ice, but he's not an answer. Montador is in his own world, he should be our 6th D man. Wouldn't mind seeing the Hawks make a play for Tim Gleason.
